Persona 4, which is coming in December I believe was originally planned for PS3. Problem was that upgrading it at that point wouldn't really add anything so they decided to keep it on PS2. It was already far enough in development.

With all of them being released on PS consoles, you can pretty much assume 5 will come to PS3. Their entire fanbase lies on the Sony brand.

Atlus does make Persona by the way, so this game will not be P5.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

More RPG's are always welcomed.

4 ≈ One

Awesome, PS3 is starting to get more and more RPG's :D

I also believe the Sakura Taisen series has been around for 2 generations as well. So that fits the "Couple of generations" quote.

1 on Saturn, 2 on Dreamcast and 3 on PS2 I believe,. 4 I believe was on PC.

Dreamcast and PS2 are of the same gen. So BAM!!! A couple generations. In Japan. Oh how I feel like I am right.

Anyone else hoping for Sakura Taisen V?

But they've never made a Sakura Taisen game. This seems like a game they've developed before.

As for Persona.

PS3 had a Shin Megami tensei game announced.

In 2005. Then nothing.

They'll likely stick to PS2 to the bitter end... before being forced to jump.

Atlus just can't afford PS3 level games too much. One or two flops would kill them... and the Persona games aren't exactly best sellers.

The only reason they probably aren't doing Wii development is that the Persona characters can get pretty "graphic" and Nintendo might be edgy around them.

Persona 3 does pretty much all it's sales in Japan to my knowledge, PS3 just isn't an option right now.

Atlus is in the top 20 publishers now.. but they are still very small.

Furhtermore. Rereading it... he DOES NOT even say that it's not a new IP.

He is talking about the next 2 releases... which may or may not even be the PS3 ones.

Persona games are definetely an aquired taste. I got me an NTSC ps2 just for Persona 2 though. It's on the way here as I speak.

Only because of the subject matter though, and the japanese way of not being PC about things... like religion.

Not really, both P3 and FES sold pretty much the same in Japan and the US (check this site). And EGM posted a rumor two or three months ago that after P4 Atlus would make a Persona game for the PS3 and one for the PSP. Both have been announced ages ago (Persona PSP would be a remake of the very first Persona, and the PS3 would be a new SMT title). Check their gamespot pages:

There have been no announcements since then, but Atlus has been teasing the Faithful (basically a newsletter) for some time with this

Okay, it feels like we're always ending these blasts the same way, but here goes: Faithful... We're not done announcing titles for this year.  We know, it's crazy.  More to come in the near future, of course.  Near future?  Could that be a hint?  OMG!

I think Atlus may announce officially a PS3 title soon. Of course, it could be a new Trauma Center for the Wii, who knows. And if both Atlus and Nippon choose the PS3 to develop their main titles, then my JRPG platform has been officially decided

Doing a bit of research in Gamefaqs, I found this Famitsu scan. Those kanjis mean Shin Megami Tensei (compare with the japanese cover of Nocturne here)

Therefore, Atlus is planning SMT4. Will it be for the PS3, as they had announced before? That's my guess
