I know you are not serious but I feel really disappointed. No Punch Out, no Zelda, no Kid Icarus, no F Zero, and most of all no Pikmin. Just some Wii Music nonsense and Animal crossing I have no interest in. The only thing that would have saved things slightly was the Wii remote 1:1 addition but even that isn't out till next year.

Nintendo, differently from Sony and MS, is a two product company, games HW and games SW, so it can't afford mistakes and after the fast growth caused by DS and Wii would suffer badly a new near monopoly of either its competitors. So it's slowing on purpose, to help both of them and avoid that putting hardcore in dire straits only one of them could prevail, clearing its road for a possible strong leadership next gen. Nintendo goal could be to be leader, but with a share that lets both MS and Sony have a share greater than 25% and stay healthy enough to fight each other. Only if one of them should prevail in an overwhelming way on the other, Nintendo would be forced to try to crush it.

Why? It would surely take much more effort than the amount Nintendo would benefit from trying to keep the others down, compared to trying to simply focus on its own success.

Don't worry, E3's not done yet. Remember '06, which I expect is going to replay itself this year.

I don't understand why people say last year's Nintendo E3 conference was lackluster. They showed Super Mario Galaxy, Phantom Hourglass and Mario Kart Wii, even though we knew about SMG and PH far in advance it was still light years better than what they showed this year.

First, hardcore market is still big enough to let at least one of Nintendo competitors thrive, if it manage to dwarf the other, in that case, given the huge dimensions of both, next gen it could be a very dangerous competitor.

Second, Nintendo is clearly showing (it's almost always sold out), that it doesn't want to rush plant building to follow huge demand, perhaps because if they build or finance too many, if next gen isn't as wildly successful as Wii, they'd become a financial burden. Given the self imposed limits to production, Nintendo can keep on getting without much effort 45% to 55% market share, more than enough to get a strong leadership if both competitors are roughly equivalent, but more risky if one of them crushes the other: giving room to both to reach the fateful 25%, it could make quite sure that they neutralize each other's efforts to get the leadership. Obviously, if this doesn't work, and either Sony or MS manages to secure for itself most of that roughly 50% remaining, Nintendo is forced to try to crush both, unleashing its full potential, but this will cost a lot of money.
