Adobe chooses BD as their exclusive format for DVD burning software.

http://www.emedialive.com/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=12891

This is great.... I'll get to rent a BD disk....burn it at home, and can just bring my PS3 with me to watch it at a friend's house if I want.    =)

Ripping BDs is not going to prove easy, plus check out the prices of blank BDs, cheapest I've found is $18

I rip DVD's from blockbuster just about every week.  The important thing is that you have software that will do it.  Once high def DVDs become en vogue, the software will be available, and the fact that other companies are supporting BD to a greater degree than the alternative bodes well for the BD format.  THat was the point that I was trying to make with the post.

Well, I am sure it was mentioned before, but Betamax was superior to VHS. BD is winning because of the PS3.

i think its universally known Br is where it is thanks to the PS3.

You're forgetting some important details from the whole betamax vs vhs... Firstly, Sony f&cked up real good be deciding not to share the technology with ANYONE, which meant that only they could produce the tapes as well as the players, this pissed everyone off. Also, the wouldn't allow porn which had a deciding factor, but everyone gets this twisted because the don't understand.... Sony<--- wouldn't produce porn, they still won't, but if they had shared the tech in the first place this would've have been the NON ISSUE that it is now, because while Sony still doesn't produce porn, avyone else and their donkey can do whatever the hell they want.

Though yes, BD is winning b/c of the PS3 AND the VAST majority of studio support.

Perhaps, but Netflix just decided to go BD exclusively!!!!!!!! Go BD woooo whooo wooo

Uh...Netflix sells BD and DVD, so it's not exclusive.

People seem to forget about DVDs...which sell a lot more than BDs...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Wow. Netflix and Blockbuster this is definitely good news for Blu Ray.

And more news that shows this is still far from over. Fox is scaling back blu-ray releases, now that it's clear blu-ray is not much more secure than DVD.

Now I know security was why they went with blu-ray in the first place, but it's funny to HD entirely, since the hope of it was to make a secure entertainment experience.

Fox has been waiting for BD-ROM for a while now.

Read that article again. It's not about the ROM discs. It's about breaking the security on the films.

This security issue of Blu Ray as far as Fox is concerned was just solved recently and I even made a thread about the new update:

Fox was the most insistent of the movie studios desiring extra copy protection in next-gen DVDs. The HD-DVD group's refusal to implement a BD+ like DRM system on top of AACS was one of the primary factors in Fox choosing exclusive Blu-ray support. Now that the BD+ system is ready to go live it is expected that Fox will be making major announcements on releasing some of the studio's AAA properties on Blu-ray.

The report of Fox scaling back was just a couple days after that, so I don't think Fox was reassured of blu-ray's security from that.

EDIT: I stand corrected. It was the same day. Yet still, it's unlikely that finalizing the extra DRM will close the holes that are already exploited, if XP and PSP updates are any indication.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

When such a large amount of Fox's money in the balance as to what format it will support, I highly doubt that the blu ray people will just inform them of their security measures by the internet traffic chatting about it.  No, they probably had a meeting with Fox and informed them of the BD format's new security upgrades.

Oh, and check this link out.  BD now has 70% of the market share, so it is outselling HDDVD by 2.3333 : 1.

The worst thing about the high-def wars is just that it gave nerds another thing to spam arguments with online. Game consoles alone just don't do it anymore.

Both will fail, average consumer Joe Donuts Suspenders doesn't give a shit about either. Most people don't even know how hook up an HDTV right, of the 15-20% of households or whatever that own one.
