The game is running on a a PC. That means the time it should take to port it to a 360 is minimal. Localization takes a long time. There is a lot of dialog to record, and a lot of text to translate. My guess is it will take loner to localize then it will to port from the PC.

The localization should just "plug-in" to the 360 version.

If the above is true, there is no delay due to the 360 release.

This. Porting a game from a PC to the 360 is a no brainer, apparently. Valve is doing it with Left 4 Dead for a day and date release for 360 and PC. The localization will likely take the longer time.

All speculation at this point though. FFXIII was destined for delays just like every other one. Nothing new here, just a culprit to point the finger at this time.

Except it is being developed on a PC with the PS3 architecture in mind.  I don't think we are talking years to change it to the 360, but 1 year is certainly probable.  To say the localization will take longer is not realistic.

Hopefully FF XIII doesn't turn into Too Human. At least not from a development life cycle standpoint.

I'm really wondering how huge of a delay this port is going to cause. I'm thinking way bigger then the GTA4 port from 360 to PS3...

We won't see this game till 2010.

"It has yet to be decided..."

I agree 100%. Which is easier: recording dialogue in different languages or translating millions (maybe even tens of millions) of lines of code into another computer language?

There is no way it will take less time to translate all the code in an entire modern video game into code suitable for another platform than it will to perform localization.

Bottom line: If FFXIII doesn't hit the West until 2010 or 2011, you have M$ and the 360 to thank for it. (I say "you" because I could care less about FF or any RPGs for that matter)

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

Crystal tools has been built with multiplatform development in mind so arguably less than that.

Nobody considered a possibility.
To avoid pissing US and EU PS3 owners off too much, SE rushes the release, so the time is more than enough for a simple localization, but a little short for a conversion, and the final effect is that PS3 users find themselves with a thoroughly tested game and XB360 ones with a rushed conversion as buggy as a bugs' hell.
