nothing new gaming wise? QTF! Gears 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, GH4, Rock Band 2 and FFXIII, these are all games are they not?

They're all games we've seen before and none of them, with the exclusion of Fable, showed us anything particularly innovative. That's not to say none of it looked great. I think Gears and Fable are going to be fantastic. The rest are multiplatform. Hence, MS not taking a leadership role, but instead focusing on matching the PS3 and Wii. Just watch the conference. They barely gave any time to Fable (their one quite innovative title) and instead gave gobs of time and focus to Scene It (kinda like Buzz), Avatars (Mii too), You're in the Movies (Eyetoy-inspired), Lips (Singstar clone), etc. Their biggest announcement was that they're getting FFXIII, a game that makes the PS3 and 360 even instead of moving the 360 beyond the PS3. Not to mention FFXIII isn't even coming out for at least a year and probably more.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Translation: MS didn't announce anything new gaming-wise for their system. All of their major announcement were responses to other systems instead of taking a leadership role and carving their own path.

The Netflix deal was the only novel idea, but it doesn't affect gaming.

First of all if MS went in a different direction many would've said they needed to do something to address Sony and Nintendo.AS it is now they've done a good job answering at least Sony. Plus they have some casual focused games too.

Also I think the Live Primetime is a novel idea too. The idea of playing gameshows for real prizes from the comfort of my own home sounds great.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

@Incandescence - LOL hahahaha, that is one of the best pics of that type I have ever seen.

OT: MS is doing what every company does, tries to make its product as potentially profitable as possible. By trying to attract the new base of gamers that Nintendo has attracted is a smart decision.

Oi, your post has "Tsst" all over it and yet you somehow fail to mention the 360's new surefire AAA title, the South Park XBLA game! You are really not such an excellent being in my book.

It's "tisk tisk tisk" or "tsk" or tssk" what the F* is "tsst".

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

tsst tsst tsst whats with all the tsst?

I'll give you Live Primetime. It's got potential. But answering to your rivals doesn't mean you have to copy them. You can tell Peter Moore isn't running the Xbox business anymore. He not only secured GTAIV, but he made sure to differentiate his version by making it clear that MS was going to go beyond whatever Sony could do. Sure the DLC has yet to surface, but that announcement did ton PR-wise for the 360 identity as innovators who are ahead of the game. The current MS strategy makes them look like complacent copycats instead of innovators. It's not going to hurt them now, but eventually if they do that enough, people will begin to question their credibility and value to the industry. Anyone else remember how much flak Sony got for the Sixaxis???
