Forums - General - What do you think of the recent 3D resurgence?

Journey to the Center of the Earth was just released and it was the first live-action movie to be released using the new Real D 3D technology. If you've seen this or any other Real D movie what did you think of this new application of 3D tech? Are you excited for all the 3D movies set to be released in the near future or do you still think 3D is just a gimmick like it was in way back in the 50's and 80's.

Awesome!

I saw Disney's last 3D 'realD' experience, Meet the Robinson's and it really looked great. It looked like I was watching something out a window at times.

I kinda want to go see Journey ... Earth at the theaters so I can watch it in 3D.

@MrBubbles, have you see the new movies in 3D. Completely different than the old blue/red glasses stuff. Much more realistic and the glasses are like regular glasses.

Right it's the Disney Digital 3-D and other recent films that recently released in special theaters that we're talkin' about here not anything that's been on T.V. or DVD.

Here's a list of all real d movies starting with the first to be released to the most recent

Chicken Little
Monster House
The Nightmare Before Christmas 2006/2007
Meet the Robinsons
Beowulf
Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert
U2 3D
Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D

There's also a pretty large list of upcoming future releases.

Oh and superchunk, Journey to the Center was good and the 3D was really cool too.
Also if you do see it or any other live-action 3D movie tell me how it compares to Robinsons, as cool as Journey was I have this theory that CGI movies work better when it comes to 3D? However, I currently have nothing to base this on as I wanted to go see Meet the Robinsons but had nobody who would go with me.

@brute Just make sure you go to a theater that is 3-D capable otherwise you might miss out on the experience.

This is what I'm basing my finla year project on at university. We have our own Imax screen to wtach 3D film on there :-p. Anyway back on topic. in 5-10 we wont even need to wear polarising glasses anymore because we will be watching all of our 3D content on autostereoscopic displays, which will also fit in our homes rather comfortably. 3D TV is the future.

Mmmmm, 3D Briana loves Jenna.

It's great if they're good but it's no substitute for story
