Forums - Sony - Theory: S. E. is using the 360 in order to generate more money for Versus

Yeah...they put their largest main series on the 360 so they can fund a spin-off. Quite ironic, eh? And even then I expect Versus to hit the 360.

Theory is likely not true. Oh, and MS and SE had a "partnership" for FF XIII on the 360 so this isn't true...

Well what they said was they had to "adjust" their partnership i believe.

Which likely means no money changed hands... but that they likely had to give up exclusivness of something, or of an unannounced proejct for it.

For example... say FF13 Multiplat status for Square Enix to back out of an exclusivity deal for Star Ocean.

Note how "They weren't sure" if they were going to release Star Ocean for PS3. Perhaps because they were in negotiations at the time to get out of exclusivity for that and maybe other games.

Seems like a more likely strategy to me.  They just don't wanna go exclusives with anything anymore .

It's a good theory, but i don't think it's true. As Soriku said, put the main series multiplat to make money for an exclusive spin-off.. just doesn't make much sense.

Versus has been in development since 2003, and it will probably be released in 2011, so this might be a record.

Theory. SE said they wanted to become a more multi-platform focussed developer and they're doing just that. They're releasing games for all major console and handheld devices (hell even the ipod).

Damage Control already. How is the spin-off more valuable than main game? Stretching a bit aren't we?

Obviously they are doing this for more funds in addition to a larger user base, but to call it on anyone specific game is really trivial considering FF13 itself is their largest project.

Even if this were true, WHEN THE HELL IS VERSUS COMING OUT? For that matter, when the heck is FFXIII coming out? When all is said and done, after this week is over, and the smoke from E3 has settled, 360 and PS3 fans are going to be left debating over games that are still in the distant future.

I'm not so sure. FF is their largest series. I really highly doubt they didn't pay for FF XIII. Star Ocean is big, but not FF big. It's like...their 4th largest series and I'm not sure Star Ocean matters when it comes to FF.

Why not though?  I mean Square Enix does nothing but benefit from it going muli-plat.  Same for Star Ocean.  If there was no deal for FF13, yer one for Star Ocean or another game... it allows SE to basically get a game to go multi plat for "nothing."

It's been heavily implied by Square that Versus will be the better game (when saying that it will have the darkest storyline of any FF) so this theory may in fact make sense.

I agree the trailer for FFXIIIVS does look better than FFXIII

Square Enix placed their bets on HD console game development too heavily and they want to sell as much copies of FFXIII as possible (that's their goal). So the best chances are two HD platforms that are simmilar.

With so much HD RPG's will make people believe that their commitment on Wii is minimmal and a theory of fleeing upmarket can appear
