The problem is it means the game will now be gimped because it has to work on XBox. Now, if the game doesn't need to be gimped, well then I guess it wasn't going to be that good to begin with.

MULTI-PLAT >< I think if Versus stays exclusive (lets put a big emphasis on IF at this point), it'll look at play better than 13 :( And that's kinda sad :/ |
Outside of the visuals taking a small hit, which can't actually be proven yet, as 360 development hasn't started, what else in this game would take a hit? Not all multiplatform games take quality hits. Sometimes it's just in your head. Take Bioshock for example. Before it would have been an exclusive that took advantage of the 360, but now it'll appear on the PS3 and it's suddenly, what, less of a game?
Although I believe that exclusives offer better experience because they are optimized for the specific platform, in the case of FFXIII it´s different. It´s engine, Crystal Tools, runs on PC and was from the beginning compatible to the ps3. With that they stroke two birds with one stone, as the engine is optimized for ps3 but also runs on PC. So really, there is no need to worry. If any version will suffer, it will be the port to Xbox360 not the PS3 and PC versions.
FFXIII is still on the very top of my wish list. The only thing changed is that I may get the Japanese version to prevent the long wait.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo
Flaming (Calling another user (any user) a fanboy is flaming.) ~ Machina-AX
Don't get me wrong, I'm still really excited and likely to love the game.
But looking at my Top 5 of this generation (excluding the Wii for this comparison)
1. MGS4
2. Uncharted
3. Call of Duty 4
4. Bioshock
5. Mass Effect
Then you add in games like Gears of War, Heavenly Sword and R&C:ToD with their visual excellence.
With the exception of CoD4, all those games are exclusive. Even with Bioshock which is now Multi, at the time of its development it was focused solely on the 360.

I hope you're right.
In some twisted way, I want to the 360 version to be inferior due to troubles porting over the optimized PS3 verson. Not because I want 360 fans to suffer, but because that implies the PS3 version was still as good as it could be.
I'm just worried that FFXIII will be a 25 - 30 GB game to keep it on 4 DVD's, when maybe they would have made it a 50GB when it was PS3 only.
I know I'm probably overreacting here a bit and worrying too much, but you gotta understand FF is a huge deal to me from a gaming point of view.

No, in fact, the visuals are taking an update, they're adding content, and we'll probably get un-compressed audio :) I mean if I had to start somewhere.
Of course it won't be "less of a game" it just won't be the game it could have been should it have gone exclusive, you can't play to both systems strengths. It just doesn't work that way. Squares going to release the game with equal quality on both, and because of that it MUST take a hit. The 360 can't rely on a hard-drive and doesn't have 50 gigs of space on a single disc, and the PS3 doesn't have unified memory. Not to mention that the PS3 will only get to use the amount of processing power that they allow for the 360, which we know the PS3's cpu has more of. Same with the graphics card on the 360 vs the PS3. That said, the Final Fantasy series has ALWAYS been a huge eye opener as far as technology is concerned, and now that technology is taking a hit because it's going to two systems. There will be more impressive displays as far as RPG's are concerned, and sadly, it might be from the same company ala Final Fantasy Versus 13.
From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Bioshock's coming to PS3 though, so where will it take the hit, since that's your argument?
Also if FF is always supposed to be a technical masterpiece, shouldn't we have considered it automatically compromised because it was on the PS2 and not the Xbox?

LMFAO!
It's true though. This game could be so much more awsome if it was a multi Bluray game instead of a single bluray/multi DVD game. Ugh the 360 is like a dead weight that holds the PS3 back I'm disgusted. Lol
Previous games were on a single console so all time and effort was put into the game on that one console. Now they'd have to do the time and effort to make the same quality of game as previous FFs over 2 consoles...either double the time or less quailty.
Hmm, pie.
