Forums - Website Topics - Request to the mods to lighten up for the next few days

Eventually I'm going to have to put myself in front of the wave of this shitstorm, but it will be painful. I'm not sure how well I can handle it.

Also, rule breakers and those who have been banned should not be telling the mods what to do.

Is that directed towards me? I think I was merely giving a "request", thus the word "request" in my topic title to you mods. I didn't tell anyone what to do, and I don't believe anyone else in this topic did either. Should rule breakers and banned members not report topics either, since that would be a form of telling the mods what to do? Is that the pivilige of the non sinners at VG Chartz? Actually let's just delete this Website Forum altogether, since the mods don't need feedback. Servants to it's people, huh leaders?

you have to understand where he's coming from.  As someone who has broken rules and been banned in the past you are asking the mods to cut the rulebreakers some slack for the time being.  He sees obvious ulterior motives you might have where you are thinking of doing something that would be normally ban worthy.  Hence, this idea would probably be more credible and less fishy if brought forth by someone who has no prior bans and therefore is most likely not planning something directly following this request.

I do understand that, but as someone that just witnessed a modeator trolling a topic himself, maybe we should just understand that many of us may go a little further than we usually do and the mods shouldn't compensate by handing out lots of bans while E3 is going on. I've already seen so much trolling that a third of this site should be banned already, so I'm guessing either the mods are under staffed right now, or are doing exactly as I suggested. Would you not give your child some leeway on Halloween to eat more chocolate? Would you not give them permission to stay up later on Christmas to play with gifts? Rules can be bent for a holiday, and E3 is our gaming holiday each year.

Well hell, I'm not gonna stress myself out, but I'll keep things going smoothly here.

That's all I'm saying. You're a good man. Let us have a few classic moments here on VGChartz. When this all dies down we can look back on these days and see who really turned out to be the fanboys that couldn't help themselves. This FF XIII stuff is fodder for future debates

We can have fun and classic moments without breaking rules and being idiots. Acting like a fool and provoking mods doesn't have anything to do with what 99% of the people who frequent this site will be doing. Why not champion the 99% who can handle themselves maturely, rather than the 1% who are idiots?

Maybe it wasn't really your 'suggestion' that prompted mods to be a little less trigger happy. Maybe (and I may be stretching it a bit, so bear with me), even though we're 'mods' we also happen to be videogamers and get into E3 as much as you all do. And because of that, we aren't spending our time waiting in the bushes to snipe every troll that pops their head up because we too are enjoying the flood of news after such a long dry spell.

I know, I know, it sounds silly and all...     ...but it is a possibility.   :P

The bottom line - if something is reported, it will be looked at and a decision will be made as whether any action needs to be taken - just like we do every other day...   ;)

You may not know it, but you're actually agreeing with me. I first suggested this because I wanted the mods to be able to join in and not spend all day banning, warning, and locking. It's in my OP if you want to check it out. Secondly, I didn't mean every mod was first trigger happy with the ban button and then came into my post to suddenly have a change of heart. I just pointed out that I noticed things seemed light out there right now in the forums, so maybe the mods were doing what I had suggested. It doesn't mean they came into this topic and it sway their decision. Some never saw this and some maybe already felt this way. It was just something I had suggested because I do like the mods conversing, I do want some good people to not get banned for small reasons and because it's E3 right now, and taking posting away is like taking away a birthday present from a kid, which I feel should only be done if he's REALLY bad, not mildly annoying, or makes a small mistake here and there.

I see though that this post was a bad idea, so you may as well lock it Talon. I wouldn't want anyone thinking a rule breaker like myself is promoting anarchy.

I don't think they should get softer... Come on arguing about consoles? And most of us are grown up... Just think twice before posting and you won't get in trouble! It's easy.

QFT,

I handle a large portion of the mod jobs that hit the queue during the day and I can tell you right now you won't be getting any breaks from me unless I get a mandate from Naznatips.  The rules of this site are here so that everyone can enjoy a relative safe posting environment (see 99% of other forums out there to see what I mean).  A moderator's job is to ensure that this environment is maintained all the time...not just most of the time.

E3 is no exception, just because there is naturally more offenses as we have more people posting about breaking news doesn't mean we are going to lighten up.  If anything I could see us cracking down a bit to drive the point home, but again that mandate would come from Naznatips. The role of moderator is one of enforcer not legislator.
