They know Nintendo has many announcements. Zelda would equal out FF, and then the rest would secure a safe victory.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS
There's only one game that can surpass the WOW factor of FFXIII and that is..... Captain Rainbow!
Lol, seriously, some would prefer Zelda over FF or viceversa, but at the end of the day I think is more important what the new market says, not the core ones. Last E3 many of us thought Nintendo's conference was boring, but Wii Fit was the big winner last E3 for many.
Castlevania Judgment FC: 1161 - 3389 - 1512
3DS Friend Code: 3480-2746-6289
Wii Friend Code: 4268-9719-1932-3069
I think Animal Crossing has huge potential for show stealing. Animal Crossing is the perfect game to introduce new channels and online abilities for the Wii. Couple that with the chance of a Zelda mention, or Kingdom Hearts, or a game that looks sweet and uses the 1:1 stuff (maybe Star Wars) and you've got the show winner.
For all the ppl saying FF7, they just came out w a FF4 remake on DS, so i think they will remake 5 & 6 before 7.

I'm going out on a limb here and saying that not only can Nintendo win E3, but they will.
I think the strongest Press Conference will Not be Nintendo however. Nintendo Focuses on the media outlets that are not game specific during the conference, CNN, FoxNews, AP, Reuters. With that said, they will absolutely win the large and vast casual audience that got to such places for entertainment news. MS vied very strongly for this crowd today and failed miserably.
Casual Winner = Nintendo
During the Conference; Nintendo will be doing something that they have done before. They will blow out software. They are being criticized for their perceived software deficiencies and to combat it they will highlight tons of software. Nintendo did this back in the mid-NGC years with fairly good results. This year they will have better support from 3rd Parties, especially Japanese, and many 1st party surprises. Literally we could have a year in which we are shown Kid Icarus, a new Retro tile, Animal Crossing, New Zelda, Pikman, Final Fantasy 7 remake, KH 3, Two Tales exclusives, Atlus Exclusives, Nipon Ich projects, Level 5 projects, EA projects, Activision Projects, Disaster, NST project, Namco projects, and Independent ventures like deBlob and Conduit. That really does trump MS's heres four sequels and some crappy casual rip-offs with one surprise announcement. In Sony's defense, they will also be blowing out games like Nintendo, but I believe Nintendo will walk away with more interesting and better titles.
Software Winner = Nintendo
As for Hardware..... w/e I'm not getting into this
Hardware Winner = Nintendo

Yeah, Nintendo can do it. I'm not sure Sony has anything really big to unveil like the MGS4 gameplay last year- Resistance and Killzone just aren't in the same category, and I'm not sure there's much "wow" to showing more GT5. Home will have a "yeah, we heard this all last year" vibe. That said, I'm not a Sony guy, so I am well out of the loop and could easily be wrong.
I think part of the problem is Sony's past success. There aren't really many tites that they can "steal" from other companies. Everyone expects every title to make it's way to a Sony console, so while FF13 or KH3 on the PS3 may make players happy, its all expected. But when those titles get "stolen" by MS or Nintendo, even if they are still going to the PS3, it's considered a kick to Sony's groin.
Nintendo's in the position where people really do want to know "what next"? It could be a sequel (Zelda, Icarus), a new IP, or new gizmos (such as the 1-1 controller), and I think people will be happy to hear it. This is the advantage of Nintendo playing their cards close to the vest - whatever is shown will be new and somewhat surprising.
I can easily imagine (but don't expect to get):
For the "core" gamers:
1-1 controller Zelda and Star Wars, Kingdom Hearts 3, new Icarus, Pikmin 3, Wii-exclusive RE title, wii-board 1080, Wii Punch Out, pretty much ANY new IP aimed at non-casual gamers.
For the online/WiiWare:
something to address the memory issue, and a new 2D Mario platformer
For the casuals:
Nintendogs Wii, Wii Sports2, Wii Music, more Mii options and game integration
And lets not forget the sales data presentation. MS's display of charts and numbers was cute, but the parsing of data (limiting it to NA only) was painfully obvious. Sony will have to do similar contextualizing to make their numbers appear great (mostly, I suspect, by showing how non-sucky they are compared to last year - when they were also boasting about their sales). Nintendo has nothing but good news to report, and can do so without spinning.
You know why Nintendo wins?
Because Nintendo is the one who is going to make the headlines in the mainstream newpapers and on CNBC.
Yeah FFXIII is a big deal, to gamers.
WiiMusic and anything else unveils for the mainstream will be everywhere on Wednesday.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I don't know, there were a few other notable things mentioned (not as big as FF XXIII), so if you consider MS's press conference to be weak, then how could Nintendo's not help to be weak, as well? Assuming you're not overly biased. |
Not really. Most of what was shown by MS was stuff we already knew about, they just revealed a bit more (like demos). You couldn't watch their presentation of avatars and casual games without thinking that they are playing catch up with the Wii. The only real surprise was FF13 - and that was a HELL of a surprise, don't get me wrong- but outside that it was expected games wrapped in a pretty mediocre and flat presentation.
I'd also say that MS was hamstrung by the 20G clearance sale. This is the second E3 that has passed without meeting widespread expectations of a price cut across all models. Yesterday's annoucement helped to preempt the dissapointment - we all knew it wasn't coming when the fire sale was announced- but it also stopped MS from showing off the new 60G model with, I'm guessing, more reliable innards (which would be a big red flag to consumers to not buy the unreliable 20G model).
Nintendo can't show something bigger. FF13 multiplatform announcement will be talked about for years to come as one of the most epic occurences of E3.
A Zelda trailer? Give me a break.
