Forums - Nintendo - Sony CEO: I've played the Wii..an expensive niche device

Wii is expensive because Nintendo made money from day one while Sony is still losing money on every PS3 sold. Wii cost just little more then PS2 to make while $120 more expensive.

Wii is expensive because it is profitable? Is that your argument?

The sadder thing is, fanboys, or idiots, like Impulsivity, actually believe this crap. I mean, where is the Wii today?

It has sold MORE than double the competitor. Playstation fanboys like to pick on the 360, but when the Wii fanboys get on Wii, they state the same crap said about the Wii in 06-07 since they have nothing else to say. Wii also has great games. It's just fanboys hate to admit which makes them sound like butts anyways.

So since Sony is not looking at themselves as a competitor, this must mean that they are number one. Right? Also notice that his selling point is that the PS3 is a Blue Ray player. That wouldn't make IT a niche device. Now would it?

No because its only your anti-Sony opinion that Blu-Ray is a niche format.  Its getting bigger and bigger all the time, and it will replace DVD period.  Wow sorry, but I had to put in my two cents that Nintendo fanboys can find something to cry about even when their "niche game device" is selling like hot cakes.  Look, is the DS in competition with one of those still screen Tiger handheld games?  I think not.  Same story here.

come on, his point was the wii is overpriced, and its thats why nintendo its getting those huge profits from.
and niche because of the control i guess.

and the #1 reason i won't support nintendo for a long time until they drop out the price.

No, actually an easily identified problem with the Wii is that it is underpriced.  After 1.5 years it still outsells on a weekly basis, leaving no stock for "impulse buyers".

Whether a product is overpriced or not isn't a  factor of what it cost, but a factor of how much people are willing to pay for it.

Don't "support Nintendo" or any company, buy the product you want.

thers no comparison between a wii and ps3, or even a 360 for that matter,

both HD consoles tower above the wii in gaming

unless you are a child/family/minigame gamer.

This is absolutely true.  The Wii caters to an entirely different audience.  I have  not met one Wii owner that is interested in the PS3, but when asked admitted they weren't interested in the Wii either until they saw its novel control scheme.

For right now it is still niche, and we don't even know if it will replace DVD. Also by the time it would there are already other formats in the plans. Examples are HVDs. Imo blu-ray won't ever be thought of as a new format rather than an uprgraded DVD. The features are nice, but there are just far less than other upgrades in formats. Also it is way to soon for a full upgrade in optical storage format. Wasn't VHS dominant for over 10 years? Dvd has only been dominant for 5, so I will think of Blu-ray as a better DVD rather than a format of its own.   Also using your logic then gaming isn't niche either since it is getting bigger and bigger at a slower rate though.

@Your other post I have both a PS3 and a Wii, and like both consoles. You could say I'm a wii fanboy.

Damn Stringer... SCE finally starts doing well and he makes a mistake.

He needs to learn to acknowledge that the Wii is doing well and then note the PS3 also doing well -- then throw in some 10 year life cycle claims...

I bet some some SONY PR personal are going to be pissed off at him...

The price of an item should not, and is not dependant on the value of what it is made of, but what people think it is worth. Thus the Wii is in fact underpriced and in comparison the PS3 is still overpriced.

You don't ask a jewellers why a silver ring is priced £3000 when the weight of silver in it is only £20 worth.

So let me get this straight... the Wii is both niche and expensive yet it is killing the PS3 in sales. So therefore, Stringer (Sony's CEO) just admitted that the PS3 is a piece of sh*t... LOL!!
