Forums - Nintendo - How will Nintendo outdo itself next gen

You can never guess what Nintendo will do until it happens, but one thing I'm sure of, the next system will be a graphical powerhouse next "generation" unlike the Wii is now. It will probably be 2nd place in the graphics department. And if it's third, it prbably won't be too far off from the other systems; a small negligible amount.

There will be one feature on it (besides 1st-party games) that will separate it from the other systems, just like the Wiimote.

I don't know yet.
However Nintendo has said that they are not going with the conventional sustaining technology route like the old consoles did.
They said that they must kill the Wii before it inevitably kills them.
Whatever it is, it's going to be a Wii-killer.Let's see if they can deliver.

Yeah I read that somewhere as well, kill it before it gets too powerful ;)

I think in a lot of ways that there is a cycle where a "revolutionary" console is successful in one generation, followed by an "evolutionary" console in the following generation. I think in the next generation it will make sense for Nintendo to focus on evolutionary improvement ...

If the Wiimote no longer has to resemble a Remote Control (as much as it currently does) and it doesn't have to double as a NES controller (as much as it currently does) you could probably change the shape a little to make it more comfortable, and change the button layout to make buttons more useable; simply having one or two kidney-shaped buttons on the Wiimote, and reusing the presure sensitive trigger from the Gamecube with the hidden button under it would be an improvement.

The Nunchuck could also include a screen-pointing interface (not necessarily use at the same time as the Wiimote pointing interface), and the analogue stick could use a hidden button under it.

Improving the graphics should be easy, and by the end of 2011 they could (probably) get to a level which is similar to what the PS3/XBox 360 can output at 480p @30fps while the system renders at 1280x1080 (or full 1080p) @60fps, while still selling the console for $300 at a profit (or small loss).

I don’t know if this has been discussed before but how will Nintendo outdo itself next gen? Will it release a now system with enhanced Wii controllers ore something totally new? I think it will be the former as they have done in the past with the Nes and then Snes with better 2D graphics and N64 with its 3D and GC enhancing them but Nintendo is unpredictable so you never know..

The competition will most likely have motion controllers that resemble the Wiis but improved on. And if MS releases there console first will they have the crown? We do have people that can see the future right :P

I don’t know but I thought it would be fun too discus this so what do you think?

I just have to say, ioi predicts that there could be over 100 million ps3/360 consoles sold.  If I am running either Sony or Microsoft and that does indeed happen, I wouldn't be making a wiimote like controller because there obviously is still demand for a normal gaming console.  Give the console a little more power so that it can easily do 720p and keep 30fps, upscale to 1080p and racing games and other games that don't have much going on on screen will be able to natively do 1080p.  If the other company tries to make a wii like device, where are those people going to go that want a normal game pad?  To your company and your system.

It probably won't.

Not only do you need a good idea for it to work, but often times luck.

They'll bring back the Power Glove; you heard it here first!

Yes but the reason they went in too the gaming market was because they want more money so I don’t see either of them wanting too share this 100 mil only. So like every company they will want more.

I think the Wii will act as a “bridge” too the next system. You can use the old controller plus the now one on the Wii but on the next system it might only be the new controller that will be present and here Nintendo will be one step ahead. Because of the userbase they will have built on the Wii. Like people moved from joystick too the gamepad I think if done right people will move too the now controllers as well even though the market is bigger today.

Virtual Reality! This is the next and final Vg revolution! (would take 20 years to accomplish that feat.)

They already try it and was a failure.

maybe Nintendo will release an enchanced version of it.

a Holodeck-like simulation similar to Star Trek

besides Virtual Boy was ahead and too advanced for its time

judging from the success of Wiimote controls, who knows... several years from now people might actually be ready for a virtual reality gaming

I'd much rather see what they're going to come up with for the rest of this generation. It's still way, way too early to speculate about Wii 2.
