Forums - Sales - New Xbox 360 SKU. No real price cut.

Apologies if this news has already been reported.

This is the latest about the new Xbox360 SKU.

It seems the price cut is only on the remaining phased out pro units still on the retail shelves.

The new SKU is going to be priced at $349, same as the current Pro.

We do get 60 gb hard disks though.

hmm have never heard about this,i think the promight get a price drop though

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

it might have some effect. it's just adding some memory instead of lowering the price, so thats something.

150vg$ bet(with haggy) mk wii 2009 worldwide sales > any 360/ps3 game released in 2009.

current mk wii worldwide sales (jan 9th): 553k

Thats what I figured when I bought my 20GB 360 for $270 today (came with $30 gift card). Arcade was still 279.99....

if you ask me, if its the same price but just a bigger hard disk, then its no real price cut.
What strikes most is how much hype there has already been over an actual price cut.
If this is all, then I have to say this has been a massive PR spin by MS.

they are going to keep the price higher either for a few more months or until the 20gb SKU supply has been depleted and then they'll drop the price. Besides, I think they want more profit and I really can't blame them if they're making $30-40 more per unit for a few months thats about 30-40million dollars added to the bottom line to pay for exclusives or just profit.

Tease.

@squilliam
Can you provide a link which confirms this strategy that Microsoft is supposedly pursuing?
If Microsoft does keep the price of the Pro at $349, I do think that it will be overpriced compared to the $399 PS3 especially with the features that the PS3 has which the Pro does not. Its just sad that the PS3 seems to be permanently stuck with the perception of a high price tag.

Just based on the fact that they need to get rid of the 20gb SKU and they obviously can't mix the new SKU with the old and sell them both at the same time if they have differing specifications. It just makes sense for them to perform the transisition like I said.
