Forums - Sales - PS3 SW > 360 SW (Timely Basis)

Ever Since this generation of gaming began, assumptions have been made that PS3 owners do not buy as much games (SW=Software) as 360 owners. I have made a recent discovery that PS3 owners have brought more than 20mil more games than the 360 in the same Interval.

Proof:

29th June 2007

723,930 (+42%) 41,870,717 4.05

27th June 2008

1,151,709 (-11%) 61,480,110 4.44

Is this NA only, or WW?

Either way, all three consoles have a similar attach rate. Add that with the fact that the PS3 has been selling faster, and you should end up with the PS3 selling more software over the same time period.

Software sales from 2007 and before are still largely inaccurate and incomplete.

hows it incomplete? I gave out data for both consoles.

because the sales data for software is incomplete... the vgchartz data for software going back is largely incomplete particularly in Europe/Others.

it says so... look

Software Totals:
Note that software figures are largely incomplete.

1,545,390 (+25%) 131,834,039 6.75
1,151,709 (-11%) 61,480,110 4.44
595,325 (+1%) n/a n/a
450,756 (-16%) 74,303,539 2.07

May well be the case, considering MGS4's release:

Based on April NPD figures (sold to date):

Average Wii owner buys 3.7 games per year.

This compares to 4.7 games per year for Xbox 360 owners and 4.6 games per year for PS3 owners.

Notes:
- GTA IV was released on the 29th of April, the game has a higher attach rate on the PS3.
- I don't know if the above Wii figures include the bundled Wii Sports or other PS3/360 bundled games.
- The 360 figure got a big boost from Halo 3, the PS3 figures will receive boosts from games like Final Fantasy XIII and Gran Turismo 5.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

If you look at the week for 360, they had a 42% increase

PS3 sold more units at the same period.... so?
Is likely to sell more total software if you sold more hardware.
But there is a difference in at. rate.
360>PS3

@ kowenicki

Regarding attach rates at the end of the console life cycles, it will IMO certainly be the PS3. Because the console is very likely to remain on the market years longer than the other two consoles.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Although the data is incomplete, it is the same for both. Anyway, the main difference is that games like GTA IV, CoD 4 etc had not been released, which have drawn in a larger market than games available on the 360 before June 07 with the exception of Gears of War
