Forums - Microsoft - People are forgetting why Microsoft makes the Xbox

And then there are the wackos with me who have huge HDTVs but no HD content and couldn't care either way because we bought our TVs for the inches and not the pixels.

Hahahahhahahah, QFMFT.

Well, on topic, I believe microsoft hasn't come close to winning yet. The console really only sells to people who are avid gamers, since that's who it is marketed towards. Someone looking to setup their living rooms isn't going to look at the 360 as a "all-in-one" deal.

I agree with most points onymeth, people seem to be rejecting the one box does all thing. But I don't think Nintendo is winning the living room war (although they are certainly winning the game console war)

I believe apple is winning. When you control the purchasing of content and the players for that content you are in a good spot. Itunes, Appletv, Ipod, and now Iphone. They are winning.

Apple is not winning. AppleTV isn't even really that successful. I bet more people have the Wii's than AppleTV boxes in their living rooms. Half of the people I know don't buy iTunes music because it is overpriced, even if they buy an ipod (which I don't reccommend). The iPhone doesn't go in the living room and neither does the iPod, last time I checked. iPhones are already extremely high with a plan (hm... PS3 or iPhone???), and without a plan, they're practically the price of your first born child.

Apple TV may not sell as much as the iPod, but it is #1 for video downloads, ahead of all the others including the 360. Go check the NPDs. Video downloading is just not ready for the mass market. It will take a few more years.

Saying the iPhone is expensive (or "high") is just wrong. The new iPhone is not expensive at all at $199 with contract, or you can still get the old one unlocked for around $400 on eBay. In most countries $400 won't buy you a child.

Say what now? I have $500 saved up. Where can I get a child from?

Wow where are you finding there blue-ray so cheap? I work at blockbuster and new movies are now 45-50 slightly older 25-35. It seemed at HD dvd went out blueray prive went up....

On topic. I think the tv, dvd player, the wii, and popcorn are what control the living room. People dont know or rather dont care about most of the stuff ps3 of the 360 are trying to do. In 10 years it may be different, but for now 2 taped together GC seemed to be doing quite well.

They're losing, obviously, to Nintendo. Nintendo controls the living room.

Sorry, but between the three, there is no doubt that Sony controls the living room.

Who sells the most TV's?

Who sells the most DVD players?

Who sells the most surround sound systems?

Who sells the most High Definition movie players?

Who sells the most speakers?

Who sells the most Amplifiers?

WHo sells the most VCR's, or DAT players (some people still have those).

Who owns the rights to over half the movies ever made?

Forget the fact that Sony has sold more gaming systems then anyone else over the last 10 years, Sony owns your loving room.

I haven't forgotten why they made the XBox. Money. They are now starting to see profits from the 360 even with all the negativity. It is because it has an amazing library of games and gamers enjoy playing games. Go figure. It will continue to sell well and continue to make them money. There is a reason people are willing to stick with it through 3-4 boxes, because the entertainment value is through the roof.

And I am the one who controls and owns my living room.

But you mentioned it. You should have had the answer. It's China isn't it? A Vii and a little boy for $500?

I fully agree with this. I just don't think it's relevant to what we're discussing. I thought we were discussing the game consoles as being the controlling factor of the living room.

Also, Sony doesn't own my loving room. My wife tells me I own that sucker, as I pull her hair when we're...nevermind. You meant living room, didn't you?
