Forums - Nintendo - Square-Enix using Nintendo to pay for Final Fantasy 13 etc?

Nooo... those games on the Nintendo cost won't make enough money to pay for Final Fantasy 13... didn't XII cost like 50 million?? while FFVII cost like 25 million? I'm guessing 13 while be 100+ millions.. but then again.. rereleasing Chrono Trigger won't cost them a dime.. so that's 95% profit...

Don't worry, Square Enix looks like it is going to give every console some love this generation.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Couldn't we turn this argument around and say that FFXII was used to finance the DS and Wii titles? In other words, why are we even having this discussion?

they choose the system that a concept will amek most money on. those cheap to produce titles will sell best on the ds. their big concept rpg's will sell best on hd consoles.

FF13 will pay for itself. no one should question that. the other games make money, but they don't pay for FF. FF has always payed for itself.

*bad me!  i used next gen consoles.  i meant hd consoles

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

I'm not entirely sure about this. FFXI, for instance, should probably have been a loss of money.

How much they earned on a few others is hard to tell.

@Soriku: That FF:CC trailer sucks.

However it is rumoured that the game would be done over with Crystal Tools as the engine(even though I'm 99.9% sure that it was to bring FFXIII to Wii but Iwata wouldn't moneyhat SE).
So the next one might look good.

I think more of a FFXIII side story that the real installment.

If what you said were to happen. SE needs to first gather an army and have M1 tanks patrolling around their offices before the announcement. Many PS3 fans will be a little pissed.

As long as the main series stays with the ps3... I'm happy. I'm not a fan of the FFCC. I have the first one for the GC. I guess in relation to your question about shovelware - it depends on how you want to view it. Most would see it is Square's way of giving back to the old Nintendo FF fans as well as opening the FF realm to the younger generation. I don't think they are making these games to fund the mainstream series, but I guess it does help.

SE has alot of projects nowadays and are making new games like Last Remnant for the 360. So maybe it's a bit of love for all. Anyways, as long as they keep making FF games, we should be happy.

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

If anything SE has been using Sony to finance FFXIII by releasing nothing but ports on the PSP. Considering that the majority of them are outsourced, it's not even that surprising.

The DS games have been financing the DS games which is why there has been a steady wave of them since SE started developing for the DS.

Leetgeek is largely correct on this one.

But it goes beyond just FFXIII, it covers FFXIII VS, Crystal Tools development and more.

However, amortizing costs is done by all publishers. It just currently happens that Wii/DS are providing a disproportional amount.

The debate here lies with the idea that too many of the Wii/DS titles are lower budget for the sole purpose of funding the higher end titles and engine. This is half correct. The titles fit the market they are on BUT, as suspected, they also provide the funding behind the incredibly expensive high budget titles.
