Forums - Microsoft - My 360 just got RROD, I need some advice!

Here's the deal: I got my 360 less than 8 months ago. It came with no Hard Drive and I got it for a very cheap price. The warranty ended two months ago and bricked on me 2 weeks ago. So, it was an early Xbox360 (November 2006 manufacture) and should be fixed for free because it was an early one (I think).

But when I got to the MS customer "service" page (if you can call it that), they said it would cost $100 (63 euros?) to get it fixed. I want to sell it broken on Ebay or something because I don't know what to do with it. I was hoping you guys could give me some help or tips on how to get my money's worth. I don't want to pay more for the repairs than I did for the actual system.

Just call MS. It sound slike you bought one that has been opened, so the warranty has been voided. But you should call to make sure.

Um, it should be covered under warranty. Did you try calling them instead of just going online?

I was visiting some family at my brother's house two nights ago, and his Xbox got zapped by an electrical surge (apparently the outlet wasn't grounded, it just had the 3 prong connectors with no ground, so the surge protectors didn't do dick). It was working, except the ethernet port seemed to be fried.

Then, about an hour later, it went belly up and RROD'd. His was a launch console too... he spent about 15 minutes on the phone, they emailed him a shipping label, we printed it up and got it out to ups the next day, no hassle whatsoever. I was pretty surprised, he didn't have the warranty info registered either, but the guy went ahead and registered it for him over the phone as he was sending the label.

Call them back and demand they fix it since it RRoDed under 3 years.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

well when mine went i stuck it on ebay as faulty and it reached £56 and with an added £100 i bought a new one.

but some freinds tell me that even in the uk, microsoft will solve your rrod problem after the standard 12months warranty but i think you need to be the orig purchaser with a registered account with them. either way ring them up and see what they say

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

Call get it fixed then sell it.

Price would be drastically reduced not working.

Can't you buy a brand new Core? They are pretty cheap in Europe and then you can just swap the old harddrive. Just make sure to look for the newest possible manufacturing date. You can also call them up and just say that your box died and needs to be fixed -- the worst that will happen is that they will ship it back unfixed at their expense.
