Forums - Gaming - Newer JRPG may sell worse but Remake JRPG's sell a lot more

Yeah I loved 12, didn't have to do the boring stuff like casting a spell to get rid of poison, just make the computer do it for you and stuff like that. And no more random battles, it is so hard to go back and play rpgs with random battles after playing 12. It also had a political story instead of the love story that has saturated FF for the last decade. Though it got kind of lost since there was so many side quests that you pretty much had to do to keep some bosses from being overly difficult. If SE can fix that then 13 should be amazing.

The FFX is making FFXIII so have plenty of faith that the game will amaze us when it comes out.  FFXII was great but the main plot could have been better as well as the character development.

If Star Ocean doesn't sell on the 360, that means that JRPG fans didn't buy a 360.

New sell less because they are on the Xbox360.

Yeah but in the PS1 era, JRPGs, well, the ones made by Squaresoft anyway, were selling like hotcakes, and not just FF.

I think they didn't want to make the plot to complex because it was hard to follow the plot anyways.  I remember seeing one reviewer of the game saying something like, "Ok, so the story is, ooh, this guy wants me to go kill something for him.  What was I talking about again?  Oh yeah, the story, so you are fighting against, oh this person needs help." etc.  I have faith in the original FF team, and they no doubt will amaze me.  Just make the story a little bit easier to follow and not make me do the side quests because on your 5th play through they get the feeling of, why do I have to do this again?  Oh yeah, because the boss around the bend will rape me because I am not high enough level.

The bestselling FF is VII and that sold nearly 10 million copies.  FFXIII can sell 10 million.  It depends on the userbase's size when it comes out.  Then again, it will probably have some impact on the PS3's sales.

No it can't. FF VII sold well because:

1. The PS1 was already popular and was #1 during that gen from the beginning. Even before FF VII. I love how people say "FF VII made the PS1 popular" when that isn't the case at all -- the PS1 was already very popular and all FF VII did was make it MORE popular. The PS3 isn't nearly as popular as the PS1.

2. FF VII was marketed EXCESSIVELY. It was on gaming magazines, non gaming magazines, soda, posters, etc. I really doubt FF XIII is going to get as much marketing as FF VII.

3. FF was really popular then. FF isn't as popular NOW because there are more RPGs that are worth buying than FF. During the PS1 era, FF was "THE" RPG. Right now? Not so much. FF is still popular but not as popular as it was before.

The PS3 isn't going to meet those conditions and neither is FF XIII. FF XIII will sell well but it's not going to hit 10 million. I'll make a bet with ANYONE that FF XIII lifetime sales won't be 10 million. If you're predicting 10 million...you're just delusional.

need an argument all ready so early in the day?

Maybe for DQ and CT...

But FF7? You expect a remake to sell over 10 million copies? Even FF XIII won't sell that much.

Woa, big words. For either production. Good luck with that one Soriku.

What? You think FF XIII will sell 10 million?

I'm with Soriku on this one, I love Final Fantasy but thinking that it would sell over 10 million just seems delusional, no single Final Fantasy has made the 10 million sale mark.

Honestly, who knows. Maybe the next one will be alienating to the Japanese market. Or maybe next one be herald as the WoW killer. Only thing we know is they are putting big money and time into this one and span the universe over several games. They are almost putting the franchise on the line with one i suppose with it being exclusive to the PS3 (so far). It just seems to me that 8, 9, 10 million people WW could possible pick this game up. We know at least half of that will pick it up because it has FF in the title. 12 proved that.

As for a remake of FF7, nostalga has been running rampant on current gen consoles. To many, 9.75 of them, all went out and bought the PS1 game. That was over 11 years ago. They are still throwing out FF7 branded stuff. After 11 years.

But again honestly, who knows. Just saying it was a very strong statement.

Just because hating on SE and FF12 is the popular thing to do on the internet doesn't mean that it is true.

And it is possible that FF13 could sell 10 million units. Is it probable? not really, but it will sell a good amount. It is like some people think that 5+ million copies sold is bad or something just because Halo and GTA sell so much, which is what most FFs do.

The bestselling FF is VII and that sold nearly 10 million copies. FFXIII can sell 10 million. It depends on the userbase's size when it comes out. Then again, it will probably have some impact on the PS3's sales.

It is still the most popular JRPG series ever made.  I didn't say FFXIII would sell 10 million copies, I said it could.  Star Ocean 3, the best selling game in the Star Ocean series for example sold 1.3 million copies WW while FFVII sold close to 10 million copies WW and even FFXII, the most recent main game in the FF series, sold over 5 million copies WW.

FFXII's main plot was originally suppose to be a lot darker and Basch as suppose to be the main character.  However, the original director, Matsuno, apparently fell ill and had to leave development.  They added Vaan and Penelo to make the game appeal more to the Japanese gamers.  Kawazu even stated that they couldn't make the story better.  I am not totally sure but I think that's what happened.

I would have LOVED 12 if Basch was the main character (hell I would love a spin off, preferable for psp, it would be better than Revenant Wings, yuck).  Running around with Basch, Fran, and Balthier was how I always played.
