Forums - Gaming - Newer JRPG may sell worse but Remake JRPG's sell a lot more

So when people say that JRPG's don't sell all that well anymore and that may be true, however remakes of past JRPG's that sold a boat load Will sell however and it will again.

FF7, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, since they were such top sellers, if there was a proper remake, it will once again sell a lot as they are not new to the series, but ones in the past remade into newer graphics. Since people know about it already and remember how awesome it was, of course they will buy it again just to see how an updated version would look in today's standards.

So yes, in theory newer series of those titles will sell less, but remakes will sell more because everyone loves the old ones better than the newer ones these days anyway.

That is the nature of the beast when it comes to sequels.

New sell less because they are on the Xbox360.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Star Ocean will sell since the series has an established fanbase.  Stop stereotyping 360 owners to hate JRPGs since LO's sales will tell you other wise

Maybe for DQ and CT...

But FF7? You expect a remake to sell over 10 million copies? Even FF XIII won't sell that much.

Woa, big words.  For either production.  Good luck with that one Soriku.

I'm just saying...

FFXIII won't sell 10 million, not until the PS3 have atleast triple install base then what it have now, even then It will be hard to do it.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

He is probally basing this fact on, the lack of 360's in Japan and the fact this is JPGs biggest market. It stands to reson the sales will suffer regardless of what the USA 360 owners think of the genre.

What? You think FF XIII will sell 10 million?

I'm with Soriku on this one, I love Final Fantasy but thinking that it would sell over 10 million just seems delusional, no single Final Fantasy has made the 10 million sale mark.

edit: maybe the original FF7 if you count in the PC sales - but a remake of it wouldn't sell more than the original - like it or not, there are probably a chunk of those who bought it originally due to the hype and ended up hating it.

Honestly, who knows.  Maybe the next one will be alienating to the Japanese market.   Or maybe next one be herald as the WoW killer.  Only thing we know is they are putting big money and time into this one and span the universe over several games.  They are almost putting the franchise on the line with one i suppose with it being exclusive to the PS3 (so far).  It just seems to me that 8, 9, 10 million people WW could possible pick this game up.  We know at least half of that will pick it up because it has FF in the title.  12 proved that.

As for a remake of FF7, nostalga has been running rampant on current gen consoles.  To many, 9.75 of them, all went out and bought the PS1 game.  That was over 11 years ago.  They are still throwing out FF7 branded stuff.  After 11 years.

But again honestly, who knows.  Just saying it was a very strong statement.

Just because hating on SE and FF12 is the popular thing to do on the internet doesn't mean that it is true.

And it is possible that FF13 could sell 10 million units.  Is it probable?  not really, but it will sell a good amount.  It is like some people think that 5+ million copies sold is bad or something just because Halo and GTA sell so much, which is what most FFs do.
