its hard to understand i know, but to me it seems clear that sony did not really want to sell very many ps3's when they first came out because they were so expensive to produce, people see a 600 dollar machine and a 250 dollar machine and buy there kids the 250$ one, the Wii really cut sony's losses down in the beginning and at the same time sony mustv'e help the wii gain alot of popularity. back when these machines came out people were pissed over ps3

Quoted for absolute truth. I couldn't agree with you more. The only people who have ever bought a Wii and will ever buy a Wii are parents buying the cheapest console for their little kids who have no idea what a good games console is and will be happy with anything.

Lucky your sig clearly indicates your a wii owner, because the lack of /sarcasm in your post might throw a few people off into actually thinking you were being serious.
At david, your comments are absolutely ridiculous, sony wants to sell less because they cost so much to produce (ps3's)? You do realise, if they didn't sell them at the higher price, them selling it at the lowered price means they made a larger loss of those high production cost consoles. What they would have wanted was to push as many high production cost PS3's out the door as quickly and as high a price as possible in order to minimise loss, in selling more, they produce more, meaning they are able to make the process more efficient and reduce the costs of production and then hopefully shift that to a cut in console sale price. They failed to do that, and that's why they are licking their wounds and causes PS3 fanboys to come up with your own illogical reasons as to why it as all intentionally done as part of "sony's grand plan"
Why does your "logic" not extend to microsoft, who should have benefited because they are sony's competitor and pushing a less expensive console as well, oh wait it doesn't because you don't want it to.
Also, this generation isn't over yet, sony has plenty of time to make up for it's mistakes and it is riding on the momentum of brand name at the moment. I however, believe that if the nintendo name can be tarnished in one generation (Gamecube) that MS can build one in this generation. Eventually sony has got to put out heavy hitting exclusives or else people will jump ship. The race for 2nd place is far from over.
AND lastly, I guarantee you white_box, sony will not be able to sell 100 million PS3's this generation (if this generation is considered ended when the wii and 360 are no longer the flagship consoles of their respective companies).
