Forums - Gaming - Any other shooter fans dislike COD4 online?

So I love shooters.  Play them all - PS3 and 360 (though I like playing FPS on 360 better for the controller).

COD 4 I just can't quite get myself to like.  I hate the inherent unfairness of thegame, whether it's me pwning the n00bs or if I am getting slaughtered.  There's just so many games that seem to end up that way.

Let's pretend we're playing Halo instead, with COD 4's "innovations".

1.  You join ranked Team Slayer.  You got the game a week ago and are, say, level 15, but you are dumped into a room with people that have done nothing but play Halo since launch.

2.  YOU get to start with a plasma pistol and assault rifle.  Your opponents get sniper rifles and battle rifles.  (And even if you do get to use a battle rifle, theirs takes 3 shots to kill you while yours takes four.  And yours doesn't zoom, either.)

3.  Because they have better weapons, they are more likely to go on a killing spree. But instead of just getting a medal and the guy's voice, they get to turn their radar on.  You don't have one.  Oh - and to get that benefit they only need 3 kills - if they get an actual spree of 5, then lasers shoot out of the sky and kill you where you spawn.  And because you got killed where you spawn, they then get an A.I. controlled Phantom to hover over the map, and again kill you wherever you may be.  You, of course, likely don't have a weapon capable of killing said Phantom, so you get to just stand around and die.

4.  The lasers from the sky and the Phantom are magic lasers and bombs, of course. These lasers know whether you are the red team or the blue team, and they only kill you, even if your opponent is right next to you when the bomb hits.

I could go on, but you see the point.  It's just so unbalanced and lopsided WAY too often.  I just played about 20 games, and there were maybe 5 or 6 good close ones.

I just don't understand the game mechanic of, "Let's reward the better, stronger, more experienced payer with better weapons AND let's make the playing field even more lopsided when he DOES start owning."  Seems like such an odd choice.

I just played a game where I went 24 and 3, but 10-15 of those kills, I didn't even earn.  They were helicopters and airstrikes and martyrdom grenades falling out of my ass when I died.  Am I supposed to feel like I actually accomplished something by this?  If I went 24-3 in Halo - well that would mean something.

Is it just me?  It's only that it worries me that this game is SO successful and it's a copycat industry.  I don't want to see Killzone  and Resistance and Halo 4 etc etc all suddenly adopt these kinds of gameplay items and ruin (to me) the genre I play most.

And by the way, t bugs me that people who like it say it's better than other shooters because it's "realistic".  It's so NOT realistic, i don't even know where to begin.

Sorry about the rambling, but I was irritated.  And there aren't any new numbers to look at :(

Is it the stronger/better player who gets the reward, or just the one who's logged more hours? People who've played a game for 100 hours should have plenty of advantages (knowledge of weapons, map familiarity, practice, etc.) over noobs without piling on game mechanics to reinforce that inequity.

I've never played CoD4, so I don't really know how bad it is, but I'm seeing TF2 start to head down this path. So far, the weapon upgrades at least have some kind of tradeoff, but it's definately altering the nature of the game as they come out. And these rewards encourage the wrong kind of behavior to unlock. You can either hack them, spend hours getting esoteric achievements on servers set up expressly for the purpose (what fun!), or play like an idiot trying to do stupid stuff like ubering scouts or sneaking up on enemies and taunting them.

I'm developing a dislike of RPG-like leveling in a multiplayer game.

Cod 4 = Own or get owned

The game is completely fair you get experience the longer you play but after playing to the point of lvl 55 10th prestige your ready to drop the line (In my case anyway)

And btw i think its a matter of opinion because i HATE HATE HATE Halo 3 ( But its easy gamerscore )

I think cod4 is great online one thing i dont like is that when u go to higher rank or prestige u just get another symbol they should do something else like new weapons or something.

CoD4 is okay, its nothing special or anything and the game is all luck based. The heli's and air strikes just add to the nonsense that is this game online. The one good thing about this game is its easy to get into. The action is very fast and you need very little strategy to win once you understand how each level works.

The heli's are also very bad, i've had my heli's kill no one, then the enemy will get them and they will hunt you down, i've been killed 13 times in one match before by one heli on the bog. I've been killed when the entire map is covered by smoke and i'm camping in the back of a building, i've seen the bullets of the heli curve around buildings to kill me.

The air strikes are also broken, most times they do not even go on the part of the map you select. The non stop whoring of grenades in this game is crazy too, along with the shit that is martyrdom. There is also crazy lag in the game, you will have perfect pings and your bullets do nothing, then you walk into a room and some guy knife kills you from 10feet away.

The sniper rifles seem to work more now but they were really screwed before, you could unload 10 shots on unmoving targets and they don't die.

I could go on for pages with all the crap that is wrong with the game. And i have on the Cod4 site late last year.

notice its only people who suck at cod4 complaining

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

LoL, maybe you should stop making up bullshit.  The OP said he went 24-3, i don't think he sucks at the game.  I'm 10th prestige level 55, with a 2.38 K/D ratio and about 64k kills, i don't think i suck either.  Plus i've gone weeks of playing where my average K/D is around 6.  But then you get stuck with laggy games and people tossing grenades all over the place and it goes really low.  And i've played and dominated all game modes while i have had this game.
