So I love shooters. Play them all - PS3 and 360 (though I like playing FPS on 360 better for the controller).
COD 4 I just can't quite get myself to like. I hate the inherent unfairness of thegame, whether it's me pwning the n00bs or if I am getting slaughtered. There's just so many games that seem to end up that way.
Let's pretend we're playing Halo instead, with COD 4's "innovations".
1. You join ranked Team Slayer. You got the game a week ago and are, say, level 15, but you are dumped into a room with people that have done nothing but play Halo since launch.
2. YOU get to start with a plasma pistol and assault rifle. Your opponents get sniper rifles and battle rifles. (And even if you do get to use a battle rifle, theirs takes 3 shots to kill you while yours takes four. And yours doesn't zoom, either.)
3. Because they have better weapons, they are more likely to go on a killing spree. But instead of just getting a medal and the guy's voice, they get to turn their radar on. You don't have one. Oh - and to get that benefit they only need 3 kills - if they get an actual spree of 5, then lasers shoot out of the sky and kill you where you spawn. And because you got killed where you spawn, they then get an A.I. controlled Phantom to hover over the map, and again kill you wherever you may be. You, of course, likely don't have a weapon capable of killing said Phantom, so you get to just stand around and die.
4. The lasers from the sky and the Phantom are magic lasers and bombs, of course. These lasers know whether you are the red team or the blue team, and they only kill you, even if your opponent is right next to you when the bomb hits.
I could go on, but you see the point. It's just so unbalanced and lopsided WAY too often. I just played about 20 games, and there were maybe 5 or 6 good close ones.
I just don't understand the game mechanic of, "Let's reward the better, stronger, more experienced payer with better weapons AND let's make the playing field even more lopsided when he DOES start owning." Seems like such an odd choice.
I just played a game where I went 24 and 3, but 10-15 of those kills, I didn't even earn. They were helicopters and airstrikes and martyrdom grenades falling out of my ass when I died. Am I supposed to feel like I actually accomplished something by this? If I went 24-3 in Halo - well that would mean something.
Is it just me? It's only that it worries me that this game is SO successful and it's a copycat industry. I don't want to see Killzone and Resistance and Halo 4 etc etc all suddenly adopt these kinds of gameplay items and ruin (to me) the genre I play most.
And by the way, t bugs me that people who like it say it's better than other shooters because it's "realistic". It's so NOT realistic, i don't even know where to begin.
Sorry about the rambling, but I was irritated. And there aren't any new numbers to look at :(
