Now that Halo is over, at least i hope, anytime more of these FPS games start coming out, it's just being coined another "shooter".

So how long until innovation in FPS games is over and people get bored of it?

It took nearly a decade for japanese gamers to start getting bored (somewhat) of JRPG's, hence the declining jrpg sales. So how long until americans get bored of shooters? I give it one or two more years until the next genre takes over...and i'm guessing it's gonna be some Action/Adventure game that's gonna be the next craze.

When was Wolfenstein 3D released...?

Well, RPGs were the thing in the PS1 era. Shooters have been the thing since the beginning of last gen. In 1 or 2 years, I am predicting that action/adventure games in the vein of the Legend of Zelda will be the next craze.

Wow I love how you use now that Halo is over you do forget plenty of other FPS that are on par or I consider easily better then halo.
CoD4 and TF2 for example. Of course I am a PC FPS :D don't get how u console players play with a controller.
Though I would say 3-5 years its still got a bit before its gone.
