Forums - General - What do you think of Austria?

On topic: If we leave the bastard from Braunau aside, there's nothing to hate about Austria.

When I think of Austria, I think of Wiener Schmäh, humour in general and of the country's culture:

Mozart, Bruckner, Haydn, Korngold, Mahler, Schubert, Strauß (father/son), Klimt, Burgtheater, Nestroy, Zweig, Bachmann, Bernhard, Jelinek, Oskar Werner, Kruder & Dorfmeister...

My favourite person from Austria(-Hungary) is Galician-born movie writer/director Billy Wilder. He created some of the best movies ever and - as he was not always happy with the country of his childhood - he said the following, which is my favourite quote about Austria:

"The Austrians are brilliant people. They made the world believe that Adolf Hitler was a German and Ludwig van Beethoven an Austrian."

By the way: Rol, did you scare all other Austrian members off the site? It seems they don't post anymore.

Actually, they are just ashamed of themselves for not being as cool as Rol.

One could argue that Mother Teresa was pretty helpful for Macedonia's popularity as well.

Don't worry, a 16 year old's humor is often very skewed and can't tell funny from stupid.
