Forums - Microsoft - Analyst: 360 Needs More Than a Price Cut

More doom and gloom for 360 from analysts.

Do these guys get paid for this?

"We think the 360 has lost significant momentum to both the Wii and PS3, especially in Europe"

The 360 hasnt lost momentum, its increased year on year for 07/08

It's just that the wii is a monster and the PS3 gained momentum (from awful initial sales) to be just above the 360

These anal(ysts) are just dicks.

Yeah and getting paid for it.

These are the same kind of people that make "PS3 is gaining on Wii in Japan" articles. They are either misinformed or have an agenda.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

Well if M$ need more than a price cut, the PS3 needs more than big exclusives(MGS4 did PS3 good for a week and now it's back to 20,000 WW above 360). To any analyst reading this. I stand by my sig. You'll see how silly your analyzing is.

This analyst is stating the obvious. What has been said that you can't agree with?

The 360 lost momentum in the sense that it's outsold by both competitors this year and the price cut in Europe showed that Microsoft needs indeed more than a price cut, if they want to have better sustained hardware sales than Sony.

The sad thing is that analysts get paid for saying things we already knew since months.

how is an increase in sales a loss of momentum????  360 sales are up year on year for 07 and 08.

You are kidding, right? They are losing marketshare. That matters a lot more than an increase in raw sales.

This is simple math.  The first console on the scene will start at and retain 100% marketshare for that generation until another console hits the market.  When competitors show up, the first console will lose marketshare unless the competition sells zero consoles.  Please explain how MS could have remained at 100% market share after the Wii and PS3 were released.

You make it sound like MS is only losing market share because it started out at 100%.  The fact of the matter is it is being outsold by Wii and PS3 on a weekly basis and so even if they all started with equal market share (33.33% each) it would still be losing market share.

@crumas2 - I think they look at year over year performance. The 360 is selling far better than the original xbox, but it is under-performing compared to the PS3 and Wii. The price cut in Europe helped to increase weekly numbers but they are still being outsold by both consoles and they have less revenue to show for it. I think Microsoft could have a profitable business with the Xbox if they could just accept being number 3 in sales.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

This guy is stating the obvious as far as loss of momentum in Europe, and the negative bias MS receives in Europe will mean they do need more than a price cut to take on Sony in Europe. But considering that bias MS has still done pretty well with year over year increases.

28k of A gap ww between it and ps3 last week if I was ms I would not be too worried.
