Forums - Nintendo - I would just like to know, how is Nintendo not milking their games?

I'm not hating on them because they do, but it's very annoying when people say Square-Enix should stop making Final Fantasy because they are milking the game so much that people are starting to not care for each one that comes out and that they have no original ideas...

Well, isn't that the same for Nintendo too? The only difference is they have a different name each time, but almost similiar gameplay whereas Square just kept the same name with different gameplay.

Nintendo has been milking Metroid, Zelda, and Mario for so long now that people don't realize that it is doing what S-E is doing except covering up with a different name. Except Super Mario Brothers 1-2-3, it's just Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, it's Super Mario Galaxy. but the Mario name is still there. Just like Zelda, instead of saying Zelda 1-2-3, it's Zelda: Link to the past, Zelda: Majora's Mask, Zelda: Twilight princess etc..etc..

although it's probably wrong in order, but i'm just making a point that Nintendo is doing the same thing, they just use the name chronologically as S-E does. They've been milking their 3 franchises for so long now that people aren't noticing cause it's just different names without the "part 1, 2, 3" in it. When that's not enough, they milk the characters into other things like into sports games, or rpg styled games. It's safe to say Nintendo is just the same as other developers who don't have an original idea because they haven't brought anything new. Nintendo uses the same characters, developers use the same gameplay. Unfortunately, it is the characters that sell because people relate to it and just think cause they're in it, it has to be good.....

The only franchises Nintendo is milking is Mario and Pokemon. Everything else sticks to the main series, or have 1 or 2 spinoffs per gen. Oh and while nintendo does milk alot they come out with alot of new ips. just look at the ds first party games.

Every company milks, it's what companies should do, and are good at.
nintendo is an exception in one way as nintendo always tries to innovate somehow.

that's basically the difference

how is Nintendo milking Zelda and Metroid? like when a new game from either series is released its the biggest gaming news for some people, so how is it milking, unless they release, Zelda Party or Metroid Tennis games.

Well, Nintendo is still the highest reviewed publisher despite releasing games like Wii Fit, Wii Play, and Wii Sports, so that should tell you something as to why most people give N the benefit of the doubt.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

You're right if you're talking about Mario Party. That's about it. Each series receives one or two main games a generation, with some receiving spinoffs as well.

The games and the spinoffs are usually (although not always) different enough from their predecessors to be distinguishable. There's often a "gimmick" involved that changes the gameplay, for instance. But perhaps you'd care to tell us how Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time are actually the same game?

They way I see it is that "milking" ends up running down the property you milk. Kinda like how a land becomes less fertile the more you use it for crops etc.

I don't think S-E milks but if I may take some other game, Tomb Raider then yes, I consider it milking. After the first two games, the value deluded. Number one was fresh, was great and number 2 perfected the standard of number one. After that, the tomb Raider lands got less and less fertile as the only upgrades where in the graphical deprtament.

Nintendo on the other hand keeps their lands fresh by adding, and having a quality standard. Mario Galaxy might be the last Mario adventure in a long line of mario adventures and people might consider it milking because of that.

Now let's say we put Crash Bandicoot or a new character in there, without 'tude... I'd say it would have still rated as high.

thats like the worst comparison you could have made. When you say milking don't bring up FF games. They are always a hugely different story, a new fighting system, a different world ect.

Nintendo games also do big differneces in each game and waht not. (main games)

Milking games is like Madden, and WWII shooters, Vegas 2, and yes you can say liek Mario party. Its where it is a super small change, (roster change and what not) those are milking when it comes out so close to last game, same graphics, same area/time frame. Oh and guitar hero.

Milking is the act of releasing large amounts of games in an attempt to gain large sums of money due to brand name.

Nintendo only does this with Mario.

Metroid is one of Nintendo's largest franchises. They have tried to innovate with each game. What do you want them to do with the franchise? Stop making it because there are too many games? Same with Zelda.
