Forums - Gaming - Xenon vs Cell Which one really is better ??

@fei-hung

having read over this thread it seems as if Fishie, Deneidez and NJ5 root for the 360 and according to your theories the ps3 should have died by now and won't be able to accomplish much and pretty much is doomed (we all know it is not and if anything sales and forcasts show it's picking up momentum)

Not so fast. I haven't said that ps3 should have died by now. Also I am not praising how incredible X360 is. All I am doing is trying to cut out that stupid fud which comes from both sides(actually mostly from ps3 side, Which isn't really surprise. Sony has made a nice religion, which members seem to believe everything).

Just w8 for GoW3 and u will see what the cell can do.

And yea iv wondered what is better this thread rules.

Can anyone here explain how these differences in architecture might translate into actual differences in game.

@lan

for all real purposes it means the 360 should hit its roof before the ps3, though neither will likely ever reach that point.

in terms quality of what you will see no tv... nothing honestly.

theoreticaly when pushed to the limits the ai on the 360 will be smarter, and the images on the ps3 can have more detail... though again i doubt we will ever get there

come play minecraft @  mcg.hansrotech.com

Ugh this is all Russian for me. I really don't know anything about this stuff.

from what i realised .. the cell have better performance but not for games.

Again too simple.

Physics CELL>XENON
AI XENON>CELL
Graphics support (special shaders, particle support...) CELL>XENON (but GPU much more important)
...

Its not even that simple in this one category.

I think this quote is relevant to the "theoretical vs actual" performance, and the point that some programmers will be able to take advantage of that power.

"One very fast central processor would be preferable. I don't think all programmers have the ability to program two CPUs — most can only get about one-and-a-half times the speed you can get from one SH-2. I think that only 1 in 100 programmers are good enough to get this kind of speed out of the Saturn."

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

Shame on you for bring the "parallel programation model and paradigm", so far I fail to understand why people think that 100% of multicore teorical performance is achievable, and is really easy/cheap to get it, no matter what not everything can be put on a multiprocess model and expect a big improvement without making enormous amounts of sacriffice and test just for coordintate the threads... (And still that probably will negate the threorical performance)...

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

I'll give you want you wanted I got through the first page and figured people were over thinking your question.

Cell is a better CPU.

Why?

Each sub processor and run through just as much information as each Xenon core and there are more processors.

If you want a more detailed explanation I just gave it above, that's the only reason I'll give also.

Just note what can be processed isn't the only event happening in the machines - the gpu - the ram and a few other features can hinder even the most powerful cpu.

PS3 has crud for RAM imo and since it has such a huge floating point thanks to the cpu I doubt it will ever be used to it's full extent outside of something procedural.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
