Forums - Sony - PS3 Update 2.41 us up

Just installed the update and had no problems (same as 2.40).

Downloading, had no problem with 2.40 whatsoever...

I had to update my PS3 from 2.40 to 2.41 to access my friend list....
I don't have any problem with 2.40, so 2.41 should work fine as well.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

Updated without problems.

@ kowenicki

I doubt there will be any this time.. if there are Sony will look pretty ridiculous.

Judging from a NeoGAF and my VGChartz survey (and on an Amiga forum, my friends and by a survey by a friend on a Swedish forum) about a rounded figure of 0% of people who upgraded towards 2.4 endured severe problems like having to format the harddrive.

If enough people upgrade someone somewhere will endure a problem, might be a problem which would happen anyhow without even updating the firmware.

Huzzah! I didn't get 2.40, so now it's time to finally see what the whole Trophy and in-game XMB fuss is all about!

I'm thinking more from a media perspective... its bad press. Doesnt look good. We all know the media blow stuff out of proportion.

Yes, it's a sad state of IMO especially the US media. Just like when a Sony repair employee refusing to repair an actor's PS3 because of being ridiculously dirty or a joke claim someone's home burned down due to the PS3. The more outrage and the less research done to look at things more objectively the better it seems...

IMO it's mostly a problem with the media though, there are hidden agendas, like claims of HD DVD crushing Blu-Ray, completely misinformed 360 vs PS3 hardware comparisons, no in depth research why a game port may end up into minor differences but hyped up beyond proportions, etc, etc...

To be fair, the 360 has had more than its fair share of negative sensationalist press...

I think mainly RRoD related, actually I thought the US mainstream media was pretty quiet about all of this compared to the extend of the issues until Microsoft announced it had reserved 1 billion dollars for repairs, at which point it was pretty pointless to continue to claim the issues people are facing are within industry standards.

It's on an entirely different scale compared to a professional actor throwing the contents of his vacuum cleaner over his PS3 or ~0% of people having to perform a harddrive format after an important update. Once affected by the most common reason for RRoD there's no real fix to this problem.

Here in the Netherlands there was far better media coverage, including in depth research:

On topic: The firmware works solidly as far as I can tell.
