To be fair, the 360 has had more than its fair share of negative sensationalist press...
I think mainly RRoD related, actually I thought the US mainstream media was pretty quiet about all of this compared to the extend of the issues until Microsoft announced it had reserved 1 billion dollars for repairs, at which point it was pretty pointless to continue to claim the issues people are facing are within industry standards.
It's on an entirely different scale compared to a professional actor throwing the contents of his vacuum cleaner over his PS3 or ~0% of people having to perform a harddrive format after an important update. Once affected by the most common reason for RRoD there's no real fix to this problem.

On topic: The firmware works solidly as far as I can tell.
