Forums - Nintendo - Joystiq hands-on: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii)

Other attacks turned my physicality into on-screen destruction. A button-combination and downward thrust with both hands unleashed a shock-wave bubble around me, shaking away wookies. I grabbed other enemies in the air with the left trigger, and then impaled them with a thrown lightsaber through a flick-and-A combination. In a Wii-only trick, I could even levitate certain gun turrets, walking and auto-firing at enemies while I sliced at them with the lightsaber.

Great preview but I have to ask:

Where are these mysterious left triggers on my Wii contollers?

EDIT: (You can tell joystick doesn't play wii games that often; I believe the correct term is Z button)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick up the Wii version first and then if I really like it maybe the PS3 version once it's cheaper. The motion controls seem like they've been implemented really well.

I wonder if the Clone Wars controls will be the same.

I gotta say kids the "Change the quote' thing is getting really freaking annoying. Please stop before I have to add it to the forum rules.

Are you warning me of this same thing?

It wouldn't make sense to change motion physics technique between Star wars games, if its done properly here. Lightsabre movement sounds like it works, but just wait till Nintendo work on their own proper sword incorporated Zelda/ whatever game. All lessons will be learnt i believe.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

this game will be awesome!

Definitely looking forward to this game. I will very likely end up owning both Star Wars games that are coming to the Wii this year.

If I hear a few other previews like this one, I won't even need to think twice about a day 1 purchase.

It's good to hear this about the Wii version.

Fixed

Well I'm glad you needed to increase your post count by incorrectly using the word fix (unless you count slang as valid language usage) and misspelling it too.

The only difference between your mistake and mine, is that mine was not a mistake.  The definition of review is used correctly in my post.

Also isn't one word posts against the rules?  Or are you attempting to catch Soriku in post count?

Lulz, okay.  Everytime someone posts Fix'd or fixxed we're spamming.  mmmkay.

Fixxed was an intentional misspelling, much like "fix'd".

Joystiq didn't review the game, they previewed it, and that's being generous, because all it was, was a hands-on with the game.  Previews are almost always positive, because you can't judge a game that's not the end product.  So they can't be negative, as the product isn't finished.  So the only previews that you see are bad, are games that are too far gone to ever be good *ahem* Haze, but this looks to at least turn out okay.

"LucasArts has been (over)hyping the physics and behavior engines on the 360/PS3, but I didn't miss them in my Wii session. The physics felt realistic enough when I tossed crates at groups of enemies or blew open locked doors."

Interesting thats the first I've heard someone say the extra engines were overhyped.  Definitely makes the Wii version a bit more appealing if it is true.

Either way my friend will be getting the PS3 version and we will be swapping so I'll be able to judge for myself!

Clone Wars is a one-on-one lightsaber-fighting game, so I'm guessing the controls will be more tightly honed in that regard (maybe with actually having to block attacks and find weaknesses in your opponent's style?  YES PLEASE!), whereas TFU is more of a beat-em-up-and-be-a-badass game.  It's probably gonna be like comparing Final Fight to Street Fighter.

Wii version for me, then 360 version later when it comes down in price.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
