Ps3 launch cost much more for Sony then Wii cost for Nintendo. That is why Nintendo is more profitable this year. Or does Nintendo  earn more money then Sony every year?

Regarding the "losing money to gain market share doesn't work" argument, allow me to disagree.

Gaining market share and making a brand name is very important, and Sony knows it. In fact, the Playstation brand name is so strong that it took many mistakes to screw it up, which Sony did.

For example, do you think the PS3 would have sold ~800k consoles during the European launch if it wasn't for their brand name? Imagine an unknown company trying to sell a $600 console with virtually no worthwhile games, and think about how many they would sell.

The conclusion is that Sony did a fantastic job at building up the Playstation brand name, and now screwed it up, not due to lack of money or brand name but mainly due to mistakes in planning, development, marketing and PR.

Even if MS burns a lot of money into building their Xbox brand name, they won't necessarily fail. If they're smart about it, they can make a lot of money, starting this generation.

I don't think there is any dispute that the PS3 lost a lot of money for Sony. From the past data I've looked at, Sony had good years and bad years as did Nintendo. It all depends on what year you look at.

someone should make this, but it's gonna show that Nintendo has been more profitable despite the dominance of PS2.  Sony lost most of its profits from the PS2 in 2006-7.

Sony is making more money than nintendo and microsoft combined,vaio noteboks/desktops,HD TV'S,hit movies(spideramn 3 for one)etc..they are still selling alot of ps2's.Sony has a plan, they know whats wrong with the ps3, and the korean ps3 sales were better than 360 sales and wii sales.They can cut the price sure they will lose money,but the ps3 will be succesful in the long run.

$449.99-60gb ps3
$549.99-80gb ps3

Those prices along with (game of the year) heavenly sword, will make the ps3 succesful period.
