this is something nobody needs. Games do fit on a DVD, HD Movies fits on 25GB Blu, why the hell should I use a 400GB Blu?
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Just because you have no imagination and cannot see the possibilities does not mean others can't as well.
Here is a quote for ya "Nobody will ever need more than 640 kB RAM [Bill Gates, 1983]"
Wow, that things bigger than one of my hard drives! I can imagine it will come in handy in the future, but i don't think anyone needs a 400gb optical disk just yet. It would also be really slow to access all the data wouldn't it?

The article states that we should know more about the disks around July 13.

I am talking about today, not tomorrow. TODAY: Nobody needs this.

If you guys are amazed at BD disc sizes, you should read up on the next gen of optical media: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Disc
Although I personally believe that storage capacity is rapidly exceeding mainstream consumer needs.
from the german article that i read about it it was more a technical study how much layers they really can put on a bd disk. I don't expect 16 layer bd's to come to mass market cause every layer increases failure rate more and more.
But it shows that it would be possible and shows that its likely that we might get 3 or 4 layer bd disks sometime in the future.
And yes there a lot of use for these amounts of data, just cause it has no real use in in home entertainment in the near future does not mean that it is useless. Data storage and backups would be good applications if they could make writable versions of these (but i guess data transfer rate would be too slow for this)
400 GB? This is insane they are wasting space with the Blu-Ray disks now. I think 400 GB is overkill. I agree with an earlier poster this will never be used in the PS3. The fact that the PS3 needs installs for 25/50 GB disks, imagine what the size of an install would be for a 400 GB disk?
Crazy!
A 4 layer 100GB disc is probably more than enough for possible future huge games like FF13 and maybe KH3 [if it comes to the Ps3].
And for those who say PS4, I still don't see this in use then.
4 ≈ One

Games? no... not worth it
The only thing taking up space on the PS3s discs is the uncomressed media that is seperate from the game (music and video)
