In the beginning, Kid Icarus and Metroid were made with the same game engine. Kid Icarus was harder and more linear; Metroid was easier and more non-linear. Both deserved 3D reimaginings - Metroid got that in a spectacular way on the GC and for me was the best game of all time.
I would like this to be done for Kid Icarus - not just in terms of success, but I would like Kid Icarus to borrow heavily from the Metroid series. It wouldn't be that true to the original... but it would be an awesome game.
Kid Icarus would play almost exactly like Metroid Prime, except:
- All sci-fi guns and electric machines replaced by bows/other medieval weaponry and steampunk machines. However, most of the key gameplay elements would be copied, just with a Kid Icarus twist (Missile Expansion -> Arrow Expansion*)
*Don't get worked up about this. I'm giving an example, not saying that exact concept would be used
- Third-person view. The character's appearance is more important than in Metroid.
- Slightly more platforming than shooting. Still an action-focused game, but more of the Metroid Prime style puzzles.
- More cartoony art style. Not Wind Waker, but not Halo either.
What would not change from Metroid Prime, but would change from the NES Kid Icarus:
- Non-linear, sprawling world
- Focus on item collection like Missile Expansions and Energy Tanks. Chain of main powerups that unlock the next, like all Metroid games.
-Series of large rooms separated by small passageways (for loading purposes). This would eliminate load times.
- Big, big bosses that are hard. The times between bosses are relatively easy like Prime.
Just NO:
- No darker, adult themes. This is a Nintendo game, not a Metal Gear Solid. The days of the "realistic", "gritty" and "cinematic" game are over. The story will be as simple as Metroid Prime or the original Kid Icarus.
- Pit must not be an adult
