Forums - Gaming - thinking of swaping ps3 for a wii, some questions about the wii...

ok, so i've had my ps3 for a little over 2 months now and i'm loving it. but i happen accross a guy who's trading his wii for a ps3 and i'm tempted as hell. but i remembered that sometime ago, i sold my psp to buy a ds and i regreted that decission. not that the ds is bad, its fun and all but just not my cup of tea. so i ended up selling it and buying another psp which i then traded for my curernt ps3.

though i'd prefer to have both consoles, i have to cut some corners due to the rising cost of living. so my questions are

1. i like my games pretty, so hows the visuals? i owned a ps2 and an xbox, is the graphic difference similar to these 2? if its like the difference between the ps2 and the xbox, then i can live with that.

2. do all the games require me to swing the wiimote around? i know its fun but for long gaming sessions, i'd rather be sitting down.

3. hows the build? the ps3 looks really nice and elegant but is huge like a whale. is it like made of cheap plastic or is it sturdy?

4. how long does the wiimote battery last or how fast does it suck out the life out of a standard battery?

5. if i let go of my ps3 i'll be giving up ac, uncharted, dmc4, gta4, mgs4, and future releases such as gt5 and ffxiii. what games and future games on the wii can compensate for these loses? by the way, no amout of games can compensate for ffxiii as i am a fucking fanboy but 4-5 aa rpgs can at least soften the pain.

6. i heard wii has an online feature with downloadable games, but doesnt have a hdd...so where does those dl go? memcard or something? how fast does it fill up?

7. whats with the crazy wheel addon? does it even work for you? i mean, a good racing wheel will do wonders for gt but a floating wheel? (ok, i'm just really curious about this..how does it pan out?)

8. lastly, knowing that i prefered the psp over the ds, is the wii like the ds of game console while the ps3 is the psp of game console? coz that would be the deciding factor here..

thanks

1. Although not up to the standards of the HD consoles, the Wii can put out some impressive graphics with the right TV and cables. Buy component cables from a tech store if you have a large TV.

2. Bit of a vague question. A lot of games do, but some have different control schemes you can use, some require only minimal use of the feature, and some can be used with a peripheral. Besides, you can easily sit down while swinging the remote around. Heck, I can play a round of Wii boxing and still own with a recliner and no pants on.

3. I've dropped it a ton of times and it still works like a charm. The stand should also prevent that from happening as much. It looks pretty crappy without the stand, so I can't emphasize it enough. As for the cost of the plastic, I just don't know.

4. Never kept track, but I'd go with 10-20 hours depending on the game. It sucks up battery life a lot slower than the 360 controller.

5. Someone else could probably come up with a far better list than me so I'm not going to bother.

6. Memory is stored in the Wii remote.

7. The wheel can be hard to use at first, but you can get used to it quickly and besides, it's just a piece of plastic. There are a lot of different control schemes you can use for games like Mario Kart.

8. The PS3 is similar to the PSP in the amount of media features, appearance, and what games it will get, but don't expect too many Japanese RPGs unless PS3 sales improve or Sony starts paying off developers.

2. do all the games require me to swing the wiimote around? i know its fun but for long gaming sessions, i'd rather be sitting down. no, many games do not require this, most of the sports games do though

3. hows the build? the ps3 looks really nice and elegant but is huge like a whale. is it like made of cheap plastic or is it sturdy? I have had no probs with mine, it seems just as sturdy as my PS360

4. how long does the wiimote battery last or how fast does it suck out the life out of a standard battery? fairly long, better than PS3 charge imo

5. if i let go of my ps3 i'll be giving up ac, uncharted, dmc4, gta4, mgs4, and future releases such as gt5 and ffxiii. what games and future games on the wii can compensate for these loses? by the way, no amout of games can compensate for ffxiii as i am a fucking fanboy but 4-5 aa rpgs can at least soften the pain.

6. i heard wii has an online feature with downloadable games, but doesnt have a hdd...so where does those dl go? memcard or something? how fast does it fill up? SD Cards, you can get plenty on a 4gb sd card

7. whats with the crazy wheel addon? does it even work for you? i mean, a good racing wheel will do wonders for gt but a floating wheel? (ok, i'm just really curious about this..how does it pan out?) MK is ace with the wii wheel

8. lastly, knowing that i prefered the psp over the ds, is the wii like the ds of game console while the ps3 is the psp of game console? coz that would be the deciding factor here.. no, not really, i didnt like my ds at all, but the Wii is great.

thanks

Man ... let me tell you. The graphics on the Wii can't even touch the PS3. I wouldn't do it, even though I really like the Wii and play it more than the PS3. That dude could trade for your PS3, flip it for $400, get another Wii AND make a pretty good down payment on another PS3. Don't do it. Sell it but don't trade it for a Wii.

I was thinking that....

Long story short: dissapointed with my wii.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE BEFORE

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT

It all comes down to games. Read up on games already released and see if you can play them a bit at stores/friends to get a handle of them to see if you like them. Then i'd say make your decision after E3 once more game announcements are made.

The correct answer however would be, no don't trade your PS3 for a Wii. Just save up and buy one so you have both.

1. dont expect 360/ps3 graphics

2. play wii sports. Dont play metroid prime 3 unless your ready.

3. The wii is a sexy beast

4.Get rechargeable batteries so you can save $$ in the future

5.Expect spinoffs from 3rd party devolopers, But The Wii is looking bright.

6. very low memory, buy an sd card.

7. Have you played Mario Kart Arcade? It feels similair to MKWii.
slight learning curve.

8. If you want something different go with the Wii. If you like only high quality graphics stay with PS3.
