Bungie's next project, something to do with a Superintendent?

We recently stumbled across some very interesting Bungie related news over on the NeoGAF forums that we've A) never heard about and B) feel ashamed for not not having heard about it previously. It's news that (allegedly) pertains to Bungie's next super secret project and the possibility that they've been dropping subtle hints these past few months. Odd and confusing hints that all point to the little janitor-looking "Superintendent" character you see above.

As the story goes, way back in May of this year, this mysterious (and adorable) Superintendent artwork has been making appearances on Bungie posts, has been seen on employees' tshirts, has been spotted on the Bungie.net forums, has appeared on the Bungie webcam and has even been seen in the latest Cold Storage ViDoc with text reading "KEEP CLEAN". What does this all mean? Does this really have to do with Bungie's next secret project? If so, will it be a janitor sim? Will the Superintendent character grace Monday's free Bungie Day gamer picture pack? Why is the Superintendent giving us a thumbs up while holding a plunger? We have no idea, but hopefully next week's celebration of Bungie Day will make things more clear. In the meantime, take the jump to look over the timeline of Bungie's Superintendent shenanigans and see if you can put the puzzle pieces together. You know, Da Vinci Code style.

There next project is sounding like it will be as far away from halo as possible

It's a game so awesome their heads would explode if they even began to know what kind of game they were working on.

During the Making of Halo 3 documentary (Halo 3 Legendary Edition), they pretty much made it clear they did NOT want to work on anything Halo related for awhile.

Let's look back at the history of their games:

Gnop! - Pong clone
Operation Desert Storm - Tank game
Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete - RPG
Pathways Into Darkness - FPS (the first Bungie game I owned, and the first real success for Bungie)
Marathon - FPS (big hit)
Marathon 2: Durandal (bigger hit)
Myth - top-down RTS without resource gathering
Oni - artistic FPS is the best way I can describe it... tanked because of technical issues and delays
Halo 1, 2, and 3 - FPS

Except for Myth, the big successes for Bungie have been their FPS games, so I doubt they will deviate too far from that path. On the other hand, they are a very creative bunch, so who know... maybe they'll surprise us all and create the next great platformer... just kidding.

EDIT: My son believes they might be working on a remake of Marathon.

They're making Myth 4, They're sending out free PC's to play it on and it's raining donuts outside right now.

Oni was a third person action beat em up game with anime like charachters. How is that like a FPS game?

^^Yeah Oni was not an FPS and was actually decent. Hope they tread new ground with whatever they are working on.

Correct.  I meant to type third person instead of first, but didn't it have guns as well?  I can't be certain, as I never played it, but all the ad artwork showed a female character with a pistol.
