It was bad mouthed by one guy on a forum and apperantly almost no one agreed with this guy, tons of people posted counter arguments in behalf of Sony, and the guy was called a Sony basher. Apperantly no one remembers that either. Here are other quotes from other posters:
Now there were some against it but hardly the anti-ps2 campaign many paint it as. Plus all the rips about it's price were because no one knew it yet, they were going off in some cases about a $500 price tag. Where the ps3 actually had a high price tag, so some of that was a misconception. |
Wait a second. The link isn't even from a gaming article, just a message board? That doesn't prove the same arguments were made against the PS2. That proves that ONE PERSON made a similar argument.

I will have to agree with the URNotE. "That guy" was completely wrong. Next!

That was not what URN's point was. He presented one nut on a message board as "proof" the PS2 had the same GENERAL criticism as the PS3, which is a flat out lie.

See that's the problem; there will be more people like you in 2013 stating that the PS3 was the obvious winner and had no resistance what so ever and then use the same arguements used to discredit the PS3 on the PS4. In case you were too young to know, have/had amnesia or are just blatantly blind, the PS1&2 had their fair share of mud slung their way with the latter having even more crap thrown it's way.
It's been over 7 years but you can still find all the vial crap the media said about the PS2 then somewhere around the internet. The Newyork TIMES have always tried to bust Sony's butt and were awfull to the PS2. Here's an example from an article back then. See if you see any similarities http://archive.salon.com/tech/log/2000/10/27/playstation_rant/index.html
I can find plenty of articles stating why the Wii will fail.
I can find plenty of articles stating why the Xbox 360 will fail.
I can find plenty of articles stating why the PSP will fail.
I can find plenty of articles Stating why the DS will fail.
What does any of this prove?

you got way to much time on your hands.
This whole thread is based on assumptions for the future from different points in time. Unless someone get a time machine and have traveled to the future, all points are moot, we don't know if Wii, PS3, Xbox360, NDS, PSP will fail until if and when it fail, the same for success. So let this be the last post ever on this thread and come back if and when a more clear conclusion can be drawn.
I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.
Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)
Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)
1 word: RTFA
I love how this article is a poorly written forum post from 1999.
Nothing like basing you're assumptions off of incorrect facts.

I didn't write that the criticism of the PS2 and PS3 were completely different. I wrote that they are not exactly the same. That link you put has a lot of differences as well as similarities.
One important difference is that the PS3 is being outsold by systems already out, not theoretically going to be outdone by systems a year later.
And again, criticism of the price was not widespread. The PS2 was mostly praised for offfering a DVD drive at no more than the price of the PS1 at its launch. The PS3 has as much criticism for its price as praise for the quality of the player.
