Forums - Gaming - WW2 shooter in Wehrmacht perspective?

I remembered a RTS game for the PC where you can play as the Germans. The problem with releasing such shooters is that it may be banned in Germany (and possibly Austria) since most activities related to Nazis are illegal there!

(It's quite silly that the Nazi logos in MoH:H2 have been replaced with some hollow crosses)

I would imagine a game where you plays as a Nazi/Axis forces would do fine as long as you fight the Russians. But having a WW2 game based on fighting as a German/Axis troop and Killing Western allied forces i would imagine goes too far. I for one would not purchase any game where i'm playing as an Axis troop killing Western forces no matter how good the game is.

I'd say the major problem would be portraying it well.

It could be done... but I think that the writing at videogames is at such low levels they'd likely botch the whole game by making the higher up guys like cartoonish villians and towards the end have the German soldier's squadren rebel and suddenly kicking all the other nazis asses.

Yes, that is exactly what they'll do with the first ever WWII game that is released with a German campaign!

It will be a comedy, just like you describe. *puke*

My favorite WW2 game where you could play Germany by the way.

Civilzation 2. They had a WW2 scenario. Though i'd often play as the "Nuetrals" or te Spanish. One time as the Nations like Switzerland and the like I snuck some troops behind Russian lines and captured Moscow causing the Royals to rise up against the Communists again causing a massive civil War... under the name of... I want to say the Mongols.

Well I would deffinatly like one . Dont get me wrong , I dont think that the nazi ideology is a good one , but I do respect men whom are ready to die for their country , and the germans fought until\l their lest man ... thats what I call a real patriot ;) Knowing Kojima we could have a WW2 Nazi simulator soon :P

There are no glorious battles in any war. Why don't we play an Iraq-soldier or a vietnam?

"you do get to play as a Russian, and the Russians and everything about them in WW2 was far worse then anything the Germans could pull."

WTF?! can't be serious! Plz keep on talking about videogames, because you have no idea about ww2. I am not saying the russians did no bad things, but as far as I know, there were no Auschwitz or Bergen-Belsen in russia.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I think it needs a bit more time. People are quite happy to play RTS games as Romans even though they murdered and conquered a fairly large chunk of the world, but that was a very long time ago. The Nazis are still pretty fresh in people's memories. I don't know what it's like in the US but here in the UK everyone knows a veteran or had parents, grandparents or great grandparents who fought against them.

I'm not really up on war games. What's the most recent battle/war portrayed in a game where you can fight on the "evil side"?

Personally I'm all for freedom of choice and if someone wants to create a Nazi game then as far as I'm concerned that's their choice. But that probably wouldn't be the view of the media and the majority of the public.

What the **** are you talking about? Real patriot? I really hope this is some sort of over the top sarcasm. 13-16 years old boys had to fight a russian army. They were send strictly into death at a time the war was already over. They did not fight for their country, they fought, because they were told to fight. otherwise they would have been killed immediately. That is real patriotism...

You need to read up on history, Russians had their version of concentration camps. Read about the gulags, the Russians were only our allies out of convenience.
