Forums - Nintendo - This is something I've been wondering about... (WiiWare related)

How does one profit from a game released on WiiWare? Buying Wii Points would certainly only benefit the place you purchased said points from (or, if from the shop directly, Nintendo themselves)... How is there any profit to distribute to the more successful WiiWare games? Please clue me in, or otherwise discuss this matter...

Trust me...every time a game is downloaded Nintendo pays the developer.

@ super_etecoon: I'm sure about that, but how much of the pie is given to the developers?

As far as i remember, it was a better deal than what MS or Sony pay to the devs on their Live or PSN games. Or that said some Wiiware developer

Well, first off, buying Wii Points certainly benefits more than the place you purchased them from; if you (say) buy 2000 WP ($20), then the place you bought it from probably only made 2-3 dollars off that sale, leaving the majority for Nintendo.  This makes the 2000 WP card equivalent to approximately 1800 points online in terms of money going to Nintendo.

All of this money will then go into a big ol' pile of money for Nintendo, which they then divvy up depending on the licensing terms, etc. whenever a game is downloaded.

WiiWare game developers get to choose how much they want to charge; then, Nintendo has the option of completely changing it.  Either way, (i believe) 70% of the revenue from the games goes to the developer; so, if you buy a 1000 WP game, then approximately $7 will go to the developer.

Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.
