Because some posters, and there is no need to name names, prefer to say VGChartz is wrong when the PS3 underperforms. Instead they say "I'll wait for NPD."

The largest group, most recently, have been a few PS3 fanboys after the recent sales drop damage controlled by the 80gb talking point.

 

Famitsu has the Wii significantly ahead of the PSP this week.

However, I'm sure those same fanboys would now prefer to use VGChartz numbers instead of other sources.

 

I'm saying anyone who actually did cry foul and "wait for NPD" when the PS3 numbers were released, give up any right to celebrate when VGChartz contradicts the (in their minds) "credible" sources who have a larger sample size.

 

Of course, they can celebrate all they want. They should expect epic ownage with evidence to back up their hipocrisy, though.

Once everything is known, all is clear.

The PSP resurgence has a few major steps in it:

MHP2 (98k/wk)
FF:CC (100k/wk)
PSP Slim (276k/wk)
MHP2G (137k/wk)

Each was represented with a spike, while the PSP Slim recieved the lion's share with 270,000 when it actually shipped en-masse. Since Slim, the PSP's sales have never, ever been the same in Japan. It wasn't FF that was the catalyst, as FF:CC managed just 120k copies second week while the 270k+ PSP Slims sold.

What the PSP slim has done in the past 9 months is beyond amazement. It's gone from irrelevancy and no use, to effectively handing the DS it's rear end in terms of HW sales.

Of course, this doesn't have much to say about PSP software sales, they're abysmal. But at any rate, going from 30k/wk to 70k/wk on average is huge in such an important region.

I'm curious to see the HW sales of Media Create now. Usually VGC ends up somewhere between Famitsu and MC numbers and this week Famitsu had the Wii above the PSP(60K vs. 56K) w/the DSL slightly behind at 51K.

edit: Oh and the DSL passes 23 million in Japan, too! Nice :)
