I think Final Fantasy would win the console war for hardcore. for casuals, I don't think it even needs anything more, though Wii Sports 2 would help.

Of course, but square enix broke the barrier keeping 3rd parties away by announcing DQIX.

What proof do you have of that? I don't think DQIX had a very big impact on whether or not devs chose to work on the DS. If you asked them, I highly doubt any of them would answer with, "because Square-Enix did it first." I think the more likely answer would be more like, "because we want in on this. A popular system makes for better chances of high sales." Square-Enix has even stated that the reason they chose the DS for DQIX was because of it's immense popularity because "on the DS they have the best chance to reach the widest audience."

If square enix trusted the DS enough to take one of their biggest franchises, I'm pretty sure many developers would follow. Why do you think that everybody is developing rpgs? The psp wasn't cutting it, but nobody wanted to take the risk of the ds. Its the ssame thing with the wii, but far worse. The ds got absolutely no 3rd party support before DQIX was announced, and then all of a sudden it is anounced and then 3rd party floods in. Developers see the wii as a risk in the same way they saw the ds as one. Nobody has proven that high budget hardcore games do sell on the wii yet, and nobody seems to want to be the first. Once there is a first then everybody would happily make games for the console.
Err.. whats with this topic? Is the simpler reason why Squeenix wants to develop DQIX for the DS because its the most popular handheld right now? And whats Squeenix got to do with 3rd parties bringing quality titles to the DS? Do you know how many shovelwares the DS have now?

i think something like a new Mario Kart released every year for the Wii, with the MK success on the Wii it just makes sense.

After ROB fizzled, Nintendo had only one major pack-in for the NES and it was Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. The SNES pretty much always came with Super Mario World (mine actually had Mario Kart added to it as well). The Game Boy either came alone or with Tetris. Other bundles were far, far less popular and typically unnecessary.
The only way to improve how the Wii is selling is to leave Wii Sports in there and just add something else because I can almost guarantee that any new adpoter will be happy to have it [Wii Sports] because that's one of the games that's being spread by word of mouth--or rather, hands-on-play. If Nintendo left Wii Sports in the Wii bundle until the end of this cycle, I don't think there would be any ill consequences. Sure, they could make a Wii Fit bundle (in fact, I pretty much expect it by late 2009), but it would still be highly beneficial to leave Wii Sports in as a pack-in game along with Wii Fit. If they left Wii Sports out or replaced it, you'd end up with some disappointed consumers--at least oustide Japan where Wii Sports is a standard pack-in and now expected by consumers.
Wii Sports does not need to be replaced.
And Nintendo stated that there are no plans to make a Wii Sports 2.
There is however, Wii Music coming down the road and that other one that was theorized to be either a new Pilotwings or some kind of spiritual successor.

Pokemon MMORPG is the answer. You can't imagine the impact this would have, I mean people would stop playing every other game to play this non-stop. It might be a bad decision after all, Nintendo would sell much less games but heap loads of Wii's.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.
Why am I not surprised that this degraded into one of those nonsensical "pack-ins don't count as killer apps" discussions? I've said it before, I'll say it again: pack-ins which sell insane amounts do so because they help sell systems. No company in its right mind would continue to produce a game as a pack-in title unless they felt that the pack-in was pushing system sales forward. Otherwise, they're just adding expense to the package without getting anything in return. This is why most bundles don't last very long, most being made either to promote a newly released game or to get rid of stock of a very unpopular game by forcing it on unsuspecting consumers (ala Marvel Ultimate Alliance on 360).
