What proof do you have of that? I don't think DQIX had a very big impact on whether or not devs chose to work on the DS. If you asked them, I highly doubt any of them would answer with, "because Square-Enix did it first." I think the more likely answer would be more like, "because we want in on this. A popular system makes for better chances of high sales." Square-Enix has even stated that the reason they chose the DS for DQIX was because of it's immense popularity because "on the DS they have the best chance to reach the widest audience." |
If square enix trusted the DS enough to take one of their biggest franchises, I'm pretty sure many developers would follow. Why do you think that everybody is developing rpgs? The psp wasn't cutting it, but nobody wanted to take the risk of the ds. Its the ssame thing with the wii, but far worse. The ds got absolutely no 3rd party support before DQIX was announced, and then all of a sudden it is anounced and then 3rd party floods in. Developers see the wii as a risk in the same way they saw the ds as one. Nobody has proven that high budget hardcore games do sell on the wii yet, and nobody seems to want to be the first. Once there is a first then everybody would happily make games for the console.
