Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is in an awkward situation... What will they do with Zelda?

They should take the next 3D Zelda in a new direction, add more RPG elements to it or something like that. I would love to see a true sequel to Wind Waker on the Wii, but that will never happen. Or do overhead Link to the Past style as a WiiWare download.

Things I'd Like to see in the next Zelda:

1)Many Zeldas have two different worlds (OoT: Past/Future ALttP: Light/Dark TP: Hyrule/Twilight). For the new, I would like to see the same mechanic just wildly stylized. Light and Dark are old, lets bring the Zelda worlds together Classic Hyrule/Cel-shaded Underwater Hyrule. Or make one world Steampunk or water-based technology and make the other Solar or fire-based technology. Just do something interesting with the two worlds.

2)Items - new items are a must. I cant tell you the feeling I had when I picked up the Ball and Chain in TP, it was great! In addition the Items need to be upgradable, not just the sword. I do like sidequests to be the way upgrading is done.

3)Story. New villian.

4)Characters. Make many different character trees and make dynamic relationships that effect story development.

1. That sounds really interesting and it could allow them to mix up the dungeons in various ways.

2. I agree, but also make the items far more useful.  The spinner, for example, was essentialy useless outside of the dungeon in which you found it.  What a waste of an item.

3.  Agreed.

4.  That's getting a bit too WRPG-ish for my liking.  Or do you mean like Majora's Mask?  I can't help but think of something like Mass Effect.

Oh GOD!!! STOP trying to say like FF anything! You make Zelda like FF and thats just stupid!
We dont need another FF piece of crap. You guys say something original but then you say LIKE FF??? No.

Well we are talking about when FF use to be one of the best RPG series. Now it isn't. Play FFVI and you would see.

Also we are talking about the setting. FFVI was set in a time period where they were just starting to have steam engines and stuff. It could still be original with the same setting. Here is a video of the intro of the game.

It could still be original.

Still its shouldnt be LIKE anything. If their gonna change it make it original.

Hm now that i think of it i'd love a console top-down Zelda.

Those were the best IMO.

Really?
No way would I want that. Thats what the DS is for.

I take it you haven't played Majora's Mask?  It had far, far, FAR more sidequests than WW, and Clock Town was essentially a much larger and much more compact Kakariko village.

Actualy , many people complained because there were too many sidequests and not enough dungeons in the game (the main focus of the game was collecting the various masks spread throughout Termina).

Here's a video of the intro that shows basically the whole town:

OF COURSE I played Majora's Mask! I Loved it!!!! I did not mention it because I feel most people did not like it much.

My favorite mask was the Keaton! (I liked how it gave you speed). A few of my friends found MM a bit nightmarish and grotesque. Maybe that's how most people felt. The japanese design of creatures are so different from the western standards. But it was a gorgeous, huge game with tons of sidequests! I'm waiting for months now to be available from Virtual Console. I will surely play it again!

Although I'm dying for the next 3D Zelda, I understand your point. I wouldn't mind to have another ''4 Swords''-style Zelda at some point in Wii's life.
