Wouldn't Counter-Strike be considered Half-Life?
\-Noobs~! (j/k)
but seriously its a half-life mod. So CS=HL.

Bad list. There is no Star Wars game.
Jedi Knight
Dark Forces
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Republic Commando
I can't believe that many people would put GoldenEye above DOOM.
I remember hooking up null modem cables to get 1 on 1 action going on using maps that my friends and I created. Also there were BBSs that allowed 4 player action. I suppose most people didn't bother to do any of that.
GoldenEye was alright. I just remember having a giant headache after squinting to see my 1/4 chunk of a 20" TV.
GoldenEye should be number one and it has aged well. People say whatever is cool to say this week I think. Half Life number one? Give me a break. I would have accepted Doom more than that. Doom is another game that hasn't aged well I suppose. :p Metroid Prime is a series of FPS games and they are fantastic for anyone that has never played them and claims to know everything about them.
By the way, Zucas is better than any of you here at shooters. I've played him online. Don't piss him off.

nota bad list but i think counter strike should have been higher on the list

This isn't the best list. Aslo, doom should always be number 1

Well if I was to use that logic and make my own list hardly any games from previous gen would be in it. Best games of all team means how good of a game it was at it's time. It's obvious Halo 3 has a lot more features, HD graphics, and a long lasting appeal, but it wouldn't be fair to judge previous games simply because they were 6 years behind the timing of this post. People can correct me if i've missed the general conception in these "best XYZ of all time threads" on how to judge them, and if so i've confused a lot of ppl :P Also, I was slightly surprised perfect dark wasn't in it. I guess if the launch title was a bit better it would have made it. Perfect Dark was badass for the N64! |
Uh, where do you get that idea? This is 2008, not 1993. Why should we judge games based upon any other criteria than those we have in 2008?
Also, of course hardly any old games would be on the list. Technology is always advancing, and the quality of games is as well. I mean, the Doom games may still be fun as a mindless demon-killing fest, but pair it up against games like Bioshock, Riddick, and Half-Life 2, and what are you left with? 2D sprites that look awful up close, no mouselook aiming, little puzzle-solving beyond "find the key and take it here," horribly compressed sound, no ability to jump, and so on.
I know I talk about advancing video games as an art form a lot, but it's worth bringing up again here. The reverence for "classics" that have been superceded completely by the technology and improvements in game design today is hurting the advancement of our medium. If you continue to believe that games like Doom are better than games like Bioshock, then companies will follow suit and make more mindless gore-fests and less innovative takes on the genre.

'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
