Well properly advertised can do it better than the last three, but definitely is not a big tittle... if it surpass the last games I will be happy...

Oh it's definetly a big title. Given the circumstances this series just became exponentially bigger. If this game had released on PS3 or 360, the series would be about as big as the other 3. But becuase it's on the Wii, it just became huge.
As for a niche series, I guess you could say that. I mean it's alike to the other surivival horrors, so I doubt it's that much of a niche series. But it doesn't mean it can't sell. I mean look at MGS. Huge niche series that sells extremely well. Remember niche is only there to describe game in being very specific in appeal. Doesn't mean that appeal can't sell to people you wouldn't htink would buy it.

Why? Because it's on a console where the market is not saturated with many titles such as this giving it less competition which will earn it more sales. That's why. This is a sales site, you should know this already. Stop acting like everything is fanboyish when it's only you.
I'm not comparing it to MGS. I'm simply saying that niche doesn't mean less sales. It's just describing the gameplay appeal. Seriously do you have interpretation issues. That or your a little pre-teen.

| Kyros said: where the market is not saturated with many titles such as this giving it less competition which will earn it more sales. On the one hand this could be true. RE4 was clearly helped by missing competition. On the other hand releasing a game for a console where other genres seem to sell well could be a bad strategy as well. Because of that developers copy successful games instead of doing the opposite to have no competition. So it could go both ways. In any case: huge is a bit hyperbole . I'm not comparing it to MGS. I'm simply saying that niche doesn't mean less sales Depends if you have a big niche or a small niche. Generally niche implies a small target group and low but predictable sales. I think a game where your only protection is a camera has a small target group and mentioning it in the same sentence as MGS4 is insulting . |
"Huge" may be somewhat of an overstatement but still accurate. Compared to the rest of the series, this one has a much better chance given the circumstances stated. It's different from RE4 because the series was already big, and RE4 sales are actually less than the rest of series in context. The Fatal Frame series however has not had extroardinary sales, and given the under saturation of titles like this on the Wii, it automatically becomes a much more important release. It's kinda like how Viva Pinata became a lot bigger title on 360 because it released in an area on the 360 where there was little saturation. That title has sold over a million as we've seen for those very reasons.
Yes niche implies a small target group meaning it's supposed to have little appeal due to the specifics of the game. MGS in theory is a niche title. I mean the gameplay, the story, the other things in it, would generally give it a low appeal. but due to being very high quality, popular brand, it sells like a Halo or Final Fantasy.
And it's only insulting if you mix sales with opinion. Sales are the facts of gaming discussion. But that never takes anything away from any game. No More Heroes didn't sell amazingly well, but I don't find it insulting when anyone says it didn't sell well. People shouldn't find it insulting if I call MGS4 niche or in the same setence with a somewhat niche title like Fatal Frame.
Nobody mentioned that the game is being published by nintendo yet? This means the game will actually get advertised.
| Kyros said: it automatically becomes a much more important release. ??? Because it's predecessors had low sales it suddenly becomes more important? Weird reasoning IMO. Important is still rated in absolute sales correct? So selling more than a low selling predecessor doesn't make a game more important, more successful than its predecessors perhaps. And even the reasoning that just because there are not many survival horror games on the Wii, it will sell better than on PS360 is hardly convincing. Perhaps fans of survival horror are more inclined to buy a game on PS360 than on Wii? Perhaps in this genre great graphics and atmosphere beats motion controls? But we will see. |
It has nothing to do wtih previous editions. It has to do with the increase in brand appeal due to being more important to the Wii lineup and because it has less competition for sales. It's similar reasoning to why launch titles do so much better than any other.
And I never said it was going to sell amazing, I'm just saying given the circumstances it has a much better chance to sell. And yes I do think it'll sell better on Wii than if it had been on PS360 for once again said reasoning. Now if Fatal Frame had been a big series, similar to that of RE, then I would think it would sell best on PS360. But because this is a smaller series and the given reasons, I have to go with Wii. While it'd probably get overshadowed on the PS3 and 360, it's harder for that to happen on the Wii because less saturation in that area of the game library for Wii.
It won't do that much better - not in the opening weeks anyway. Reason being that *retailers* won't order that many units. Hopefully it will have legs, and push 100k-150k lifetime (if not more).
I think its a certain purchase for me.
