Forums - Sony - Ninja Gaiden Sigma will silence PS3 critics, says Hayashi

I have a lot of respect for Team Ninja - they definitely have their shit together when it comes to development games that make proper use of hardware, stable framerates, etc.

Not overally surprised that the PS3 version runs at 1080p/60fps - but its definitely a positive sign.

Guessing they actually have some engine programmers that know WTF they are doing... using assembler where required, etc.

If it wasn't essentially a port of a game from 3(?) years ago, it would do rather well.

(note - I'm fairly certain they could get the same game to run on the 360 at 1080p/60fps...).

I think they're are gonna be quite a few people that never played it before, like me. I'm not saying that it's gonna be (trump's tone) HUUUGE, but it should be a good seller, plus you've got to remember they're are a LOT of PS3 owners hungry for content so they will pick this up for something new. I still think the 1080p/60fps will be very cool, though I'm sure I'll enjoy it at any rate. (get it, rate, frames-per-second HAHAHA)

I dunno, I mean I expect the game to be amazing, but that doesn't = good sales.  People will be turned off by the fact that it's a remake in the first place (kinda like people are turned off to the RE4 Wiimake, despite the Wiimote signifficantly improving controls by all accounts).  Still, I expect a lot from this game.  Team Ninja are high quality developers.

You guys aren't taking Hayashi literally enough. He actually means that Ninja Gaiden will sneak into critics houses and silence them in their sleep.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Given the nature of Ninja Gaiden's gameplay plus the sheer raw horsepower of the PS3, I would consider anything less to be a technical flop from Mr Hayashi.

The fixed camera that you are describing is the same technique used in the God of War series, which is why it is so gorgeous on the PS2. This should definitely help move software on the PS3. I'm a bit unsure of the affects it'll have on the hardware side though.

I could be wrong, but a friend of mine had the demo and it didn't look like he could move the camera at all. I haven't played it though ... anyone know?

Since when has Ninja Gaiden a fixed camera? The original on the Xbox allowed you to center the camera anytime behind Ryu with a single button press. The update Ninja Gaiden Black added a free camera to the right analogue stick.

So has Sigma a fixed camera?

Right, it does have a free camera, but only in the FPV if I recall correctly. It still works pretty much the same way, as a) you're in a confined area, and b) the free camera is confined to this area, so the developers can control the polygon count regardless.

And as Dolla Dolla said, this is the same technique used inGod of War, and why it looks spectacular - every single polygon is accounted for once the scene (or "room") is loaded.

Why is he acting like the ps3 critics are complaining about graphics? Hello it's the price and lack of games and customers thats giving it flack not it's graphics potential. That's like a movie critic knocking Arnold Shwarcheneggar for his performance, and replying with, "How can you say his performance stinks? The dude can bench press 400 pounds!"

I think he means developers aren't pushing the PS3 graphics enough and Ninja Gaiden is.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
