@naznatips: new games are being announced for all 3 consoles all the time. Most of the high profile games are going to the PS3 and/or 360.
As for that PSP vs DS argument that we already had...it's basically Crisis Core and Dissidia (newly announced btw) vs DQ9, FF12RW, and FFTA2. Those are the big releases. I'll enjoy the FFT remake on the PSP and I'm sure people will enjoy some of the other DS games, but let's wait and see how those games end up before we start saying Square is abandonning PSP and PS3.
I will stake my slightly fewer years of gaming against yours and say that the PS3 and 360 will not have any kind of drought of games in 2009. The lineup for both, and especially the PS3 (imo), are going to boost sales the 2nd half of the year.
Oh yeah, and this thread is about Soul Calibur IV being announced for the PS3 and 360. But I guess you somehow know they started that game years ago or something.

Metroid Prime, Galaxy, Brawl, Battalion Wars, Strikers, Animal crossing, Nights, Dewy's adventure, No More Heroes, manhunt 2, and more
Minigames? I see very few Minigames...see the smart third parties will go far on Wii, handi in hand with Ninty's first party, while the dumb ones will get left out in the floppy cold of the PS3 and 360
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Please stop talking about your predictions as if they were fact, you have no idea what the software situation for the 360 will be in 2009. And as for not hearing about any big name games being announced for the 360 in the last year, well maybe you should actually look at gaming websites that cover the 360 because there have been a lot of announcements for new games: Tom Clancy's Endwar, Fracture, Saints Row 2, Dungeon Hero, Lego Batman, America's Army 2, Fallout 3, Condemned 2, The Last Remnant, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, Deus Ex 3, Banjo Kazooie 3, Gears of War 2, and many other games have been announced and most have started development after the success of the Wii. |
It is my opinion and my prediction and I am entitled to it. I at least bother to site it with evidence. You just listed a LOT of crap games, but let's go through it anyway.
Tom Clancy's Endwar, er... duh. This is exactly what I just said. Old IPs will remain on the systems, but that doesn't mean they will be the focus of development.
Fracture, we know nothing about it other than that it's a lucas arts game that makes the ground shake... k. Obviously a huge title.
Saints Row 2, a sequel to a decent game, hardly AAA though.
Dungeon Hero, an underground life sim. Obviously huge /sarcasm
Lego Batman, The only console this has been anounced for is the PS2. Much more likely to hit Wii than 360.
America's Army 2, The sequel to a military recruitment propoganda MMO owned by the US Government, obviously a huge 3rd party developer.
Fallout 3, Anounced in 2006, yes obviously this was begun recently! /sarcasm
Condemed 2, anounced in May, screenshots presented upon anouncement. If you think that it took them less than 6 months to get the game to the level that they can take screenshots and present them to gaming websites, you have no understanding whatsoever of the development process and I'm wasting my time on you.
The Last Remnant, Very obviously been in development more than a year. Again, it comes back to your knowledge of the development process.
Dark Messaih of Might and Magic... now you're just getting ridiculous. It's a port of a PC game released almost a year ago. Another huge 3rd party developer game obviously /sarcasm yet again.
Chronicles of Riddick, a remake of the 2004 game... maybe you should be debating for my side. You seem intent on proving my point through sitations with no research behind them whatsoever. Always fun to debate people who are too defensive of their system to do the research required to debate reasonably.
Dues Ex 3, yep, I'll give you that one. Congratulations on one recently anounced (probably) large development cost game from a big publisher... oh wait. Well, Eidos made Tomb Raider anyway....
Banjo Threeie, 2nd party... unbelievable how horrible your game choices have been to try and prove me wrong.
Gears of War 2, K I'll give you that one too.
So, out of a list of 16 games only 2 even remotely supported your attack on my argument. Thanks for being such a reasonable and intellegent debater. You practically proved my point right there. There are no new big games being anounced anymore. All you did was get some half-assed IGN search without even bothering to pay attention to the details. Not a good idea if you intend to debate on this website.

Umm not sure what other Tom Clancy Endwar game you played but this is a new IP...

Really it's been in development for more than a year? Square Enix just licensed the Unreal Engine 3 on Jan 25, 2007, the game engine they're using to MAKE The Last Remnant.

Rendering was already done when the engine was licensed, or did you miss the screenshots? The engine is a PHYSICS engine, it's only necessary for gameplay. Many steps of development were begun long before then.
Fine, I suppose you can count endwar as the start of what's possibly a new Tom Clancey series, though it's subject to the same deal that development began a long time ago (They already had lots to show editors when it was anounced). I guess I didn't count it due to the fact that there have been 30 Tom Clancey games made (more if you count expansion packs). No that's not an exaggeration. It's hard to call anything Tom Clancey a "new IP" anymore.

News flash it more than just an Escape from Butcher Bay upgrade to HD, it'll contain a new chapter (Dark Athena) and new gameplay features, and it also now have multiplayer which the original didn't have.

It was called a remake even by the developer. Please don't get into stuff about extra content and better graphics making it a whole new game. Even if it wasn't a remake it still would fall under old IPs category, but it is very much a remake.
