I don't get why people assume Wii owners don't to own PS2s as well either? I'd guess there is a likely chance that there are at least as many PS2 owners that own a Wii as their are PS2.

Why? I mean it's not like the Wii being popular is suddenly going to make EVERYBODY who owned a gamecube to buy it in the first year or something.

Even if you make the (Stupid) assumptions that every person who bought a gamecube(at this time last launch va lauch) bought a wii... and that every person who bought a PS3 owned a PS2... and that nobody who owned a gamecube owned a PS2.

There are still more "unsold" wiis then their are PS3s total.

Also there are a LOT of PS2 owners who had bought either.

=p Just check what you wrote;.. didn't you mean PS3?

Ah hah yeah I did. I mean PS3.  I mean looking at the numbers it seems VERY likely that the Wii does have nearly as many PS2 owners as the PS3 does.

So suggeting a legacy for reasons of consumer base is kinda stupid.

I mean you can lose sight on this website on the matter sometimes... but most people aren't fanboys.  A lot of people just buy the system which best fit their needs.  "Hardcore" gamers included.

Yes it is possible you are right but if I have to make a bet I would put my money on 'More PS2 owners bought a PS3 than a Wii'

My estimates 6-10 million Nintendo lovers and gamers who had a Nintendo console before bought the Wii.

6-10 million of people who bought the Wii who never owned a console/handheld before bought it especially a lot of young teens/kids who got it for their birthday/Christmas.

And the rest who bought it are PC/Xbox/PS2 gamers/owners.

In the future you will be probably correct but at the moment I would go with 'You are wrong' The only place where there are more PS2 owners who bought a wii than a PS3 will be Japan.

See I think it's just Europe for PS3.

In america there have been 5 Million PS2s sold.

At the same time there have been about 20 Million PS3 sold and 12 Million Wiis.

So if every person who owned a PS3 owned a PS2 you'd be right... but it seems like a VERY slim margin.

4 Million Gamecubes for example were sold around this time.

Leaving 8 Million Wiis unacounted for. Which means at least 3.99 million of people in the US had to be new casual users who mostly... do to wii shortages be the kind of people to wait outside stores to get wii consoles.

When you take into account the fact that it's very unlikely that every person who owns a PS3 once owned a PS2 and that a decent amount are selling to blu-ray enthusiasts, people disapointed with the cube and Xbox and just people who were too young to own consoles... and vice versa for the wii. Seems likely, or at the very least either way.

(41% of US PS3 owners use their blu-ray capabilties once a month.)
