Correct. Look, as others have pointed out, the last Animal Crossing game outsold God of War 1, God of War 2 and God of War PSP combined. There is no way to avoid this conclusion.

You're essential relying on intangible qualities like "influence" and "impact" to make your case. I personally think Animal Crossing is a vastly superior game. But you know what? I'm not basing my conclusions on that opinion that I happen to hold. I'm basing it on the fact that the franchise has absolutely destroyed GoWar in sales.

And yes, KingofWale, for the record, Mario and Sonic may well be a more important franchise than God of War, although having only one game in the series makes conclusions more difficult. I think a better example might be Mario Party. And absolutely, yes, no quesiton, Mario Party is a bigger franchise than God of War. I'm sorryif reality does not adhere to your personal beliefs. I wish Chess was the premier game advertised at the launch of every console, but alas, it's not. You can try what I did and clinch your eyes shut, ball up your fists, and yell "I wish I wish I wish I wish I wish..." over and over again, but I think you'll find, as I did, that to our dissapointment this behavior does not alter reality.

 

I don't believe the concept of "influence" and "impact" is something to be overlooked. Games such as SoTC will be remembered as one of the best games on a very popular console, and yet, never sold that well.

How many people will remember Mario and Sonic 10 years from now?? And God of War in that respect?

To base on comparison of 2 franchise purely on numbers to me is just a shallow way to look at the world of gaming.

Critically (reviewed)? God of War.

See, we all can win here.

There's only been 3 Animal Crossings. And the first two did 3.2 million combined. Had it not come out on the DS, GoW would have won both of the categories.

Here are some trends we can look at:

Animal Crossing on N64: 0.26 million
Animal Crossing on GC: 2.98 million
Animal Crossing on DS: 9.47 million

God of War on PS2: 3.20 million
God of War 2 on PS2: 2.11 million
God of War on PSP: 0.75 million

As you can clearly see from these numbers, one franchise is growing exponentially, and one is shrinking very quickly.

Influence and impact should be overlooked because they are intangible and never predictable. Look at GTAIV. It looks like it helped the Wii more than the PS3 and 360...

All you can do is use facts, and make a judgment based on those. The facts we have are that Animal Crossing is a much larger and more important franchise than God of War.

God of war is a bigger franchise for Males 12-30.  Animal crossing is bigger for everyone else

AC is a perfect game for the DS, I'm not sure it will do as well on the Wii.

God of War on the PS2 sold that much after it became a greatest hit.

And God of War 2 on the PS2 is still in NPD's top 20 last month apparently... I forget where I read that, but I'm almost certain that it's true.  And that game is not a greatest hit yet. (Or maybe it was God of War 1), but anyway, once God of War 2 goes to greatest hits, expect similar sales to God of War 1.

But let's compare review scores.

God of War:  94

God of war 2:  93

God of War:  Chains of Olympus:  91

Animal Crossing (Gamecube) 87

Animal Crossing DS: 86

God of War is the bigger franchise.Using the DS as a scapegoat is ridiculous.Hanheld games generally lean toward every little kid out there.When AC sells that much on the wii,then we'll talk.That's also like saying that AC is bigger or as big as Halo.Ridiculous folly.
