do you know when? I personally don;t remember them ever taking the whole PSN down before.

You'll still be able to access PSN on your PS3 I belive...just the store will be down and you won't be able to play online games that use PSN. I never really meant taking the whole thing down though, just maintenance in general.

They only took it down before when the rennovated the PSN with the new look remember? ... Nevertheless I'm holding my breath for 2.40 ... let me be disappointed if I'm wrong ... =D

I'm sure its maintenance - but it also seems likely that some behind the scenes prep for 2.4 is going on as well as surely the network must be setup to handle trophies, etc. first before we all update our firmware.

No doubt, but they're probably going to be doing extensive testing with the firmware before they release it. So maybe a few days to a week before they release it?

The last new look was certainly a major update. I mean for the user-side wise though. They're surely preparing the servers for the new firmware, but that doesn't mean they're going to be relasing the firmware the same day. Surely you'd want it to be well-tested before they put it out? I for one don't want my PS3 locking up from going into the in-game XMB from one game. Though they've probably tested it enough by now.

oh BTW, its not the 2.4 firmware update, a Sony employee from gamefaqs (he had pics to prove he works there) said that it was supposed to drop the 18th but there was a problem and now its going to release july 1st (its a tuesday so im guessing its true).

This is odd.When have Sony done maintenance like this for the PS3,besides the one before the Playstation Store?
