Final Fantasy by a long shot but I get the feeling that the answer the thread creator wanted to hear is mario.
"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)
"WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
Quest for Glory
Elder scrolls
Final fantasy
and oddly enough Doom

Because Halo = Trilogy.
Series has to be 4+, most I would say are 5+ games. Once Halo wars and chronicles are out and it goes from blowout franchise to a full series then we'll call it a series.
Anyway, If I were to judge Halo against all the other series of games (that is if I were to count 3 games as a series), it's definitely up there, because it has never had a bad game, not even an average one. Halo was great, Halo 2 was awesome and Halo 3 was above average/good. That's something that hardly any series can claim: Zelda certainly can't (thank you cd-i... bastards), ditto Final Fantasy, Mario can depending on how you see sunshine.
But like I said, not a series really and I'm sure it'll hit a form slump soon (I'm going to say Halo Wars).
For me: Final Fantasy, Zelda, Mario.
EDIT: Whoops, quoted the wrong person, meant to quote the person who said "suprised no ones mentioned halo".
