Forums - Sony Discussion - PSN or XBOX Live?

So Xbox Live has been better than Playstation Network in terms of features and still is better but with Firmware Version 2.4 on the way things are about to change.

So when firmware 2.4 is released the Playstation Network will be pretty much neck to neck with Xbox Live. Firmware 2.4 will add in-game XMB and a Trophy system (Sony’s answer to XBL achievements) so this firmware will pretty much overtake XBL ever so slightly.

Just think about the $50 a year fee for XBL versus Free for PSN. Not only that but Playstation Network is easily expandable through these firmware updates so they can probably add a lot more feature than XBL.

In terms of connection and online play there is nothing wrong with online play on the PSN, no lag apart from if your playing with someone with a crappy connection.

Whats missing from PSN that will deffinitely make it better than XBL after firmware 2.4?

  • Advance invite system. Although you can invite friends while in game before you start a game but Home features a more advance invite system where it will launch the game and jump straight in automatically.
  • PSN’s player based hosting VS Microsofts dedicated servers. This can be rectified if Sony were to put some dedicated servers in for PSN, probably a future plan.
  • A new user interface. Ok XBL is far easier to use and navigate but again this can be sorted just like the Playstation Store got sorted.
  • XBL has movie and tv show downloads. Ok but Sony is coming out with a video store.
  • More content. PSN needs more content and XBL currently has more and gets more every week. Again this can be fixed by game companies releasing more demo’s and Sony acting upon it.

All the above can be sorted out and implemented via future firmware updates, so eventually Playstation Network will overtake Xbox Live and best of all it will still be free of charge.

Dno says: i didnt write that but any thoughts?

Around the Network

keyword for me.... free......

Could it be that for $50, I'm paying for the fact that XBL has about 10 times the content that PSN has?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Steam > PSN = Live.

PSN = Free, key games run on servers, no advertisements embedded into our XMB.

Live = Pay for, has advertising in the Dashboard. Far more content than PSN, many more Live-enabled games, more people playing, more people with headsets, many more community features.

Steam = PSN + Live - the need to swap disks when you're invited into a different game, and being able to type a message without using a crappy on-screen keyboard.

1. what? WTF? seriously. The PSN is mostly all dedicated servers versus player based servers on XBL.... that is completely backwards...

2. The XMB is better, period.

3. Quality over quantity.

Around the Network

First off, you should automatically know what kind of responses you're going to get, seeing as you posted in the Sony forum instead of the Gaming forum, where this belongs.

So, you're saying it'll be equal but Sony overtakes them anyway?  Also, what about the 120-odd games already out for PS3?  Some will be patched, but many won't.  So XBL still wins here.

Just think about the $50 a year fee for XBL versus Free for PSN. Not only that but Playstation Network is easily expandable through these firmware updates so they can probably add a lot more feature than XBL.  LOL!  You honestly think that Xbox Live doesn't get expanded XD XD XD Take off the fanboy-coloured glasses!

In terms of connection and online play there is nothing wrong with online play on the PSN, no lag apart from if your playing with someone with a crappy connection.  Same with XBL, except for that one time when MILLIONS were trying to play one new game.  PSN HAS had its' crashes, too.

Whats missing from PSN that will deffinitely make it better than XBL after firmware 2.4?   <==Definitely shows that you're looking for an honest comparison

Where do you think the term 'host advantage' in Gears of War came from?  XBL uses player-based hosting for most games.
  • A new user interface. Ok XBL is far easier to use and navigate but again this can be sorted just like the Playstation Store got sorted.
  • XBL has movie and tv show downloads. Ok but Sony is coming out with a video store. Again, this makes it 'better' how?
  • More content. PSN needs more content and XBL currently has more and gets more every week. Again this can be fixed by game companies releasing more demo’s and Sony acting upon it. Assuming that the 360 just stops getting new stuff, right? *rolls eyes

All the above can be sorted out and implemented via future firmware updates, so eventually Playstation Network will overtake Xbox Live and best of all it will still be free of charge.  Cuz Microsoft DEFINITELY can't upgrade Live if they have to, or lower the price or make it free if they feel threatened, right?

Dno says: i didnt write that but any thoughts?  Thoughts?  There was literally one thing in there that XBL doesn't already have, and many of the other things it will still do better after the update.

Also, are you sure you didn't write that?  There are waaaay too many spelling mistakes in there.  Linky plz to the people who did.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

live its just more advanced at this point

i thought PSN had mainly dedicated servers, not the other way round

Yeah... 10 times the content that won't be used.

I NEVER bought a movie or clicked on an ad... thats some great content you guys got there.

Follow the herd, sheep. You guys try to find any kind of justification for paying money for something that should be free.
